I have never driven a 300z but i love the 240-280z. The styling and simplicity are awesome. The 300z started to get more complicated. I have driven a few 300zx's and they are fun but would never buy one because they are a nightmare to work on

I think the 240Z was the first in the series...it was a cool car back in the day.

    Datsun!!!

Yep, the 240z was the first one but they kept the same styling through the 280z (for the most part). But some of the later ones started to get a little fat with the bigger bumpers and such that killed the styling. But thats easily changed

I would probably just sell the perfectly good engine to help fund the swap...but that's just me.

No E30 love here? I almost bought an NA Miata but the problem was I had a 325is before which left me underwhelmed by The People's Sports Car. All these years later I've wondered if I should try another one out though.

Mustangs are fun, they can be sporty..they are not sports cars. They literally invented the term 'Pony Car' for it. Marketing people can't help but lie and modern automotive journalism is just an extension of marketing (that might be harsh, though it can still be true - they probably just don't know that 'sports car' has some definition to it and doesn't just mean 'fun').

You can drive anything like a Miata. It probably won't be as fast in the technical stuff..but my belief is that there are no boring vehicles, just boring drivers. 'Slow car fast' doesn't just apply to Miatas and Fits..

OP, don't get a Tacoma. If this is a "drive while restoring something fun" and you don't need a truck (and definitely not every day), I'm going to 2nd the wagon suggestion (don't forget you can tow a little 3500# or so trailer with a Subaru, etc), or going all the way out on a limb and suggest a van..or even..even a minivan.

They now look like a shorty retro 240/260/280z. Especially the 2nd window design. You can't tell me that some Mazda designer didn't look at a Z and copy the design almost to a T.

Yes, traded my 2019 WB Scat Challenger for my 24 Tacoma TRD Sport. Had to get used to the power change big time.

    Thanks everyone for your input.

Was able to test drive both a Tacoma Limited with AVS, and a Ranger Raptor this weekend.

Was able drive the Tacoma in Sport+ mode and get on it this time around. It definitely has some low end torque, but falls very flat once up to highway speeds. Not enough passing power for me.
Conversely the RR has power throughout the powerband and even felt more comfortable ride quality wise. Tacoma interior and amenities are leaps and bounds over the RR, but you cant have it all i suppose.

    Ended up purchasing the RR

We have a 23 Type R and a Tacoma. Was a 3rd gen and I hated driving it so took the car most of the time. Traded the 3rd gen in for a 4th gen and now I Drive that most of the time. How ever I really love the Type R. I just have a lead foot and find myself really having to hold my self back to not get pulled over in the car. In the taco I’m much more chill. Just use the adaptive cruise mode and eco mode

    Wait, what?

    There's an Eco mode?

    Oh, geeze...forgot, it's a 4th Gen.

I had a 2018 Type R and a 3rd Gen Tacoma. I sold my R in 2021 and now have a 4th Gen Tacoma. I sold my R for the lead foot reasons you also have. It was a blast, but I valued/needed my truck more. It was also our third vehicle. Our 16 year old now drives #3. BTW, I have yet to even see a current Gen Type R. They are fantastic cars.

I found the materials in the Tacoma to be more hard plastic than the RR. What do you find nicer on the Tacoma?

I do miss driving the R and doing daily 100s to and from work.
