Picking the 21 up at my mechanic. Gave him the oem pads and rotors, having them replace them, adjust the rear drums and flush the fluid... My bill is like $600. That seems expensive.

Sounds like "customer provided parts" tax to me.

You're new here. There is a zero tolerance policy. I'd edit that?

I called a shop right next door to where my truck is now. They quoted me 160 for rear drum service, 160 for labor on the front rotors/pad install and 250 on a flush and fill.

    Everything has gone up.
Shops make money on parts too, if you provide your own, most (if not all) will add that markup to the service charges.

How many miles on that '21..? Hard miles...?

I would have got a few quotes for sure, or at least ballpark figures.

do you drive hard? I feel most people get 50-60k out of their front pads and usually rotors last 2 brake pad changes.

In my neck of the woods labor rate is 120-150hr. Id expect 400 min so 600 sounds about right for what they did.

brake changes is probably the one thing I will always do myself because of the cost

my mechanic quoted me like $450 installed for my front brakes with him providing parts. and I think it would've been like $75 for the flush. If I handed him the parts he typically charges a little bit more on labor but it might be around $250 for installation with provided parts

ok, so 600 is about fair I'm guessing. I'm busy and didn't have time to do it myself and with all the time watching yt vids doing all that is not worth a couple hundy for me. I'd prob be 6 beers in and still on one side of the truck.

How much is your time worth to you? Sounds like the $600 was worth your time.

Price is not outrageous for the work you described. To a shop, customer supplied parts or not, it still takes the same amount of time in the bay.

    4 run, 2 don't
Watch a video on how to adjust rear drums, it's crazy easy.

You could even buy a hardware kit at Napa for cheap and replace yourself (not that you'd need to this early).

Replacing front rotors and pads is a simple job; I found one of those cheap caliper spread tools to be really useful for inserting new pads.

Worst case, you'd need a second person to help you bleed your brakes when you run the old fluid out to replace with the new stuff.

I think brakes are the most important feature of anything you drive, I'd never trust myself to do a brake job myself.

I reckon at 25,000 miles my 2021 has another few years before I'll have to deal with that.
