I recently changed out my front brake pads, and when I got to the second wheel I discovered that I had accidentally put both pads with the wear indicator squeal tab on the first wheel. Or at least I assume I did, since there was no wear indicator tab on the two pads that were left in the box. Probably not a big deal, I tend to be pretty good about checking the brake pads. But it brings up a few questions.

    1. Does it matter whether the squeal tab goes on the inboard or the outboard pad?

    2. Would this mistake cause the ABS light to go on? I can't imagine how, but it's the only thing that I can imagine that I did wrong. Changing brake pads isn't rocket science.

    3. Is there anything else I should check that would make the ABS light go on after putting new pads in?

If you look carefully there are letters cast into the ear of the pads. A B and C
Surprisingly there's not a lot of info about it, but this is how I oriented mine when I did them this summer:

As for the ABS light, you might have bumped / damaged one of the wheel speed sensor wires. Should get the codes read

I'm not 100% sure on Tacoma's since they have the dual calipers but on conventional calipers you typically put them to the inside as the inside pads typically wear slighty faster than the outside.

There's nothing to do with changing brake pads that should trigger an ABS issue unless you damaged a wire or wheel speed sensor.

Yup squealers inside and down as I recall. Hence the difference between A and B pads
