Does anyone do a steering rack rebuild?

I have put my second rack in and it is staring to leak again. I have my original rack in the box still in hopes I would rebuild with new seals, but never got around to it.

    Does anyone do this?

Is it worth it or just get another OEM rack?

How much does a rebuild cost?

Order a rack from rock auto. Cardone part# 262629. $170 after turning in your core. It's a rebuilt oem rack..at least mine was.

A local TW member who is a professional mechanic and does LOTS of Toyota 4x4 work recently replaced my steering rack for me. In our conversations about the options he said he wouldn't dare mess with anything other than OEM unless you don't mind replacing it again soon. Buy once. Cry once.

You can get rebuilt OEM or brand new from the dealer. I opted for a brand new one.

I second this, had a rack rebuilt and it clunked terribly and skipped teeth. Steering wheel would go from 12 o’clock to 2 and back on potholes.

Saved up some skrilla and got an OEM, but they’re not readily available. If you find one snag it
