Just got myself a used 22 TRD OFF ROAD from the dealership about a month ago. A couple days ago I noticed that every time I start her up, I get a message “maintenance required soon” on the dash.

Nothing seems off and everything that I can see is running and working properly. Is this a cause for concern? Also was wondering about getting an OBD tool to check on things like this myself instead of running to the dealer / mechanic every time. Any advice on this?

A maintenance light is different than a check engine light.
Maintenance light means you are due for a particular service.
An OBD II reader is helpful for the check engine light...find what code is thrown and clearing it in many cases.

    Cheers

I'd strongly suggest taking some time to peruse the owner's manuals. You'll definitely learn a bunch.

Welcome to the forum. Look at the maintenance schedule in the manual and compare it with your mileage. Easy reset for the maintenance reminder.

It's just a mileage timer (maybe time too) AFAIK. It reminds you that you are due for your 5k, 10k, 15k, 20k mile tire rotation and possible engine oil change. It can be reset by the shop or by you.

As mentioned, not a concern. It’s only a ‘22, so prior maintenance is probably completed by a Toyota dealership. But for peace of mind, you’d like to verify that its maintenance is up to date.

Download the Toyota owners app, create a profile using your VIN, and you should have access to all dealership work that’s been completed, including any outstanding recalls.

Go into the Combo meter (between the speedometer and tach) and toggle through the menus to reset the Maintenance Soon light. I keep my own records of when Maintenance is required and generally perform Maintenance sooner than Toyota recommends.

    Welcome from the forum :hattip:

    Normal.

The "required soon" reminder starts at 4500 miles from last reset.

At 5000 miles it will change to "maintenance required" and you use the arrow button on the right side of the steering wheel clear the message on the display.

The yellow exclamation point in a triangle light will stay on until the counter is reset - and hopefully the oil is changed.
