    Hello all,

Has anyone mounted the Pelican BX 135, 255, 80, or 50 in their read bed with the Bak X4S tonneau cover?

Before I pull the trigger on a case and cover, I wanted to make sure the cover will roll down and no issues if I used the Pelican mounts (cross bed or side mount depending on which case).

I will add a photo from online of what the 135 with cross bed mount would look like.

    Thanks!

I have the X4s. I don't think so, but not sure as the oem rails are dropped.

Edit: the cover will probably roll down, but I don't know if those mounts for the pelican are adjustable for the lowered rail.

Thanks for the photos. My worse case scenario is just strapping the Pelican down by the cargo hooks. However, I’d really like to use the Pelican mounts if I can do both.

The X4s rails will include brackets that relocate your Deck Rails. You can see in the images above that it drops them down about 2" from their original position just under the bed rail. The X4s will still function as expected once you've installed the Pelican brackets back onto your Deck Rails; however, I wonder if that would make it a snug fit for the Pelican case on the brackets, having lost that little bit of height? Have you had a chance to try this out and install the products together?

Hi Santana- I actually purchased my first X4s from you for my 2020 Pro.

I did end up installing the X4s on my 2024 Pro with the Pelican BX135 and Pelican Cross Bed mounts. Fortunately, it did install seamlessly and there is no issue with the height or tailgate/tonneau closing. There were a few hiccups along the way mainly because I wasn't thinking about the future pieces that would be mounted.

Meaning, you should slide any other tie down mounts or anything else that is going inside those rails BEFORE you tighten the tonneau cover mounts. I had to loosen the tonneau cover a couple of times to either slide the Pelican mounts in or add the stock Toyota tie down mounts in the rails. Another (slight) issue is the Pelican case has to sit a little further back than I would like. It sits just before the wheel wells because the tonneau cover rail mounts still need to go into that rail. Not the end of the world, just a little further leaning.

Let me see if I can grab some pics.

Okay, so some minor adjustments and planning, and it all came together. I'd love to see it!

What's the weight capacity of the X4S? Can you mount a bedrack and RTT to the T-slot rails (like you can with a RetraxOne XR)?

That would be the Bak Revolver X4ts Hard Roll Up Tonneau Cover w/ T-Slot Rails, which is the same great construction and design as the X4s, just with conveniently integrated T-slot rails. There isn't a specified weight rating for the rails, however it's designed with racks and RTT in mind much like the Retrax XR models. You can see in this image from the installation video that the T-channel rests mostly on the bed rails, so you have more support for those accessories.

I see what you're saying about pre-planning for the bracket installation. We see the same thing with tie-down cleats- you have to do one and then the other before fully tightening down the tonneau cover rails. The whole setup looks great here, even with the Pelican case positioned where it's at. Thanks for sharing those photos!

Absolutely! I am very happy with both the cover and case. Thanks, and hopefully this will help others decide.
