Small lift, slightly oversized tires, well...
Heading out now into the wildlife area to see what I can see.

Well I sure as heck can’t see any of the lights here in the NE/WY/CO junction. Weird haziness, maybe dust clouds or smoke from wildfires, had been messing with me all day. But I did get to see some neat things I guess. First was Cascade Springs, a hot springs with waterfalls.

    DSC09128.jpg

Drove through the desolate plains of southern South Dakota and western Nebraska. Zero people, lots of wildlife that don’t give AF about cars. This guy almost became my hood ornament. He is not because this post is sponsored by Akebono Brakes.

    DSC09152.jpg

Agate Fossil Beds National Monument. Too hot for the short hikes, but due to past vandalism all the bones are indoors anyways so that was easy.

    IMG_8090.jpg

Scott’s Bluff National Monument. Guy named Scott was a fur trader and died near this bluff, buddies decided to name it for him. I’m conflicted now on wearing my Toyota mechanic shirt any more…

    IMG_8092.jpg

What’s really crazy is they blasted a tunnel through the cliff and you can drive right up to the top. Views up there are not bad.

    IMG_8093.jpg

Chimney Rock because I’m on the old Oregon Trail now.

    IMG_8097.jpg

Courthouse Rock shown here, Jail Rock directly next to it but out of the frame are not far down the highway.

    IMG_8099.jpg

Drove way way way the F out to the middle of nowhere for Panorama Point, the highest point in Nebraska. It’s a huge wide open space where bison graze and windmills possibly outnumber the bison (no, seriously, like endless windmills).

    IMG_8113.jpg
    IMG_8115.jpg

Weird sunset with all the dust and clouds. That stupid cloud took away the last 30 minutes of daylight.

    IMG_8120.jpg

Camping out here is somewhat hard to come by. I’m trying to stealth camp in a Best Western parking lot. Noisy AF but it’s a long drive to anywhere else.

Good luck rebuilding T cases, waxing your wool, Insta snapping the aurora, or whatever else you kids do nowadays.

I’d much rather be on an adventure such as yours but instead I decided to get an ear infection and lay on the couch all week.

    0/10. Would not recommend.

I didn't have the best line of view toward the sunset but I didn't see no damn comet.

Oh there will be some mods all right
It's a shame the Michigan thread is nothing like this thread. No camaraderie and rarely any posts. I know if I ever got stuck or my truck broke there is a good chance you awesome fellas in here would be able and willing to lend a hand, and I the same. In the Michigan thread I probably wouldn't even get a response for a week lol.

Got some not really great pics last night...phone and not-so-great operator. Night mode showed up better, still grainy.

edit: The lights were amazing. I've never seen them beyond straight overhead, I'd guess they were visible to maybe 110* from the northern horizon. I was out there until about 12:30, they were dying down again (hardly nothing when I got out there) and what you could see was like convective lightning...or maybe thin, whispy clouds blowing overhead...at about 200 MPH.

I had read that tonight, right at sunset, looking SW...previously had been visible in the southern hemisphere only. Tonight should be brightest, less so and a little later every night until maybe early Nov.

Aurora borealis has never been visible in the southern hemisphere

Aurora Australis is the southern one

Garden of the Gods in Colorado. I re-learned a lesson today, same one as I once found in Sedona, AZ: Friday is the worst day to be at a place like this. Beautiful scenery, too many people. I’m outta here.

    IMG_8130.jpg

Where is that and what actually is/was the fare? Looks tasty and different!
