Bad day for my Taco. I know it’s probably impossible to tell from this pic alone but wondering if you all think they’re going to total me out.
2020 Off road ~65k miles. Tire is canted in pretty bad now. Engine bay seems ok.

Your insurance company will decide that. So many factors; frame damage, air bags, driveline, current prices at salvage, etc etc. Tore up body panels look bad, but aren’t as costly as frame replacement, air bags and so on.

Thanks for that. I couldn’t tell if the frame was damaged. No airbags deployed, which was surprising. Lesson of the day is to look left and right even if you have a green light, have to engage the clutch, put it in gear and start to cross.

random people on the internet are not trained to do appraisals of wrecked cars with an AI picture, the insurance co. will make that decision with physical inspection

Agree, not looking for an appraisal but maybe someone has had a similar accident and damage recently. I still need to grab a couple personal things from the truck and if it’s declared a total loss then I won’t have an opportunity to go back for anything else.

I'm starting to think that people posting pics of their wrecked trucks and asking if it might be totaled is more of a coping mechanism for all of the stress they're experiencing. Not really looking for a definitive answer, just trying to wrap your head around the curve ball life threw at you.

Nah, I’m good. Just wondering if I should grab my sub behind the seat (and such) before it is handed over and out of my control.

i'm starting to think this as well.. i've never seen so many wreckage threads asking about basics... i mean, with the average price of the vehicle, most owners are at least near their 30's, and you mean to tell me that between personal and extended family, no one knows how insurance works?!? it seems like every thread, i'm coming in and posting how the process works, all because i just happened to be paying attention when my sister spun a ford ranger into a mazda mx3, not even mentioning all my little boo-boo's along the way.. are people really going 30+ years through life with no interaction with insurance/bad life choices?

poor picture, but most likely totaled, due to the structure around the door frame being bent. that's a major structural component, and while repairs are possible and documented by toyota, it represents more liability than most insurers are going to be willing to deal with.

also, you will have plenty of time to deal with the insurance. the truck should've gone to a repair facility of your choosing. it will stay there until the insurance either completes repairs, or pays you out for it. for them to total it, and buy you out, the truck must be factory-complete, meaning that it must have factory wheels, and all factory accessories. any added on gear, you will have plenty of time to go out and grab from the facility. but any changed parts must either stay, or the factory part needs to be with the truck to complete the deal...

I didn’t realize this was a trend. I’m 43 and I’ve only been in one accident over 20 years ago. Never totaled anything. I guess I’ve been lucky to not learn this process extensively by now.

This is the info that I needed. Much appreciated. I have a ton of stuff that I would rather not buy twice and didn’t want to miss the boat on my ability to demod and return to stock.

A good indicator is usually the air bags gone off.

The insurance company will give you an opportunity to get your items out of the truck if it’s declared a total loss.

Absolutely get your stuff out of the truck. Your truck is likely totaled. When your truck gets towed to an insurance lot pretty much any stuff of value will tend to disappear. Also, once it gets into an insurance lot the "lot lady" will prohibit the removal of anything attached to the truck such as speakers or any bolt on accessories like running boards or toolboxes or what have you. Get anything and everything you want to keep off the truck. Thirtyish years ago I had a truck that was totaled. The insurance lot would only let me remove personal items like a coat and paperwork from my truck. Being the cynic of mankind, I had removed my speaker box and CB ahead of time. However, I had not removed my nice cross bed toolbox. They would not let me remove my toolbox from the truck while in the insurance lot. About a year later I saw my toolbox which I had painted and modified a certain way on another truck.
