Hi, I am new to this forum. I have two 1st gen Tacomas. I am swapping a 1998 2.7 engine into my 2001 2.7 4-wheel drive manual transmission truck. I have the wiring harness for the engine however this the ECU has other plugs that don't fit properly. Does this mean that I have to also replace the wiring harness for the cowl and any other wiring harnesses? It's difficult for me to find the exact year harness. It would be nice if I didn't have to replace the cowl harness. Any advice on this one?

Alternativly would it be a better plan to simply switch the parts of the engine to make it similar to a 2001 2.7 engine (even though it is a 1998 engine) so I can use my 2001 wiring?

    Yes. Swap the parts.
    The harness won't always work.
The harness may be pinned differently than your ECM.

Always better to swap parts if you can.

So the parts that would need to be swapped are those related to the ignition? Sorry learning all this as I go.
