I'm not sure if anyone here has experience with this, but I'm trying to change the splash screen on my Kenwood DNR1057XR. I've tried resizing the image, changing it to 16 bit bmp file I even tried changing the txt command to version 9999. All I keep getting is a red screen and no update. Picture of my HU turned off after install so people can see what HU I am referencing.

I saw on Tundra World people were able to change it, I asked some questions on there but it is an old thread so I doubt I can get any help there. Thanks in advance everyone. 76b542a5-72b0-4b29-aeb1-7a6eaca3f593.jpg

Saw this post, so went and tried it on my DNR1007XR and was pain free (I saw this post, researched it, download and put on USB and successfully did it within 20 min ~). I did a two step, I used this video to get me started: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=FS9KdDIyl2o

In his description he has some pre-formatted images to use already in HD 1280x720, so I just used his image1.bmp file and used his text file in the toyota folder, but changed it to 9999. Outside of that, plugged in my usb drive, put radio into standby mode and did the two top left two bottom left one top left one bottom left and chose the opening image (or whatever it was called, was obvious).

Only advice I guess would be make sure your naming is correct "image1.bmp" and "OpeningCustomize.txt". Only 2 x files on the USB drive....

    Body of the text was:
    Opening Customize
    [FILE]image1.bmp
    [VERSION]9999
    ~END

Not sure, maybe you're trying some custom image that is way too large for the buffer to hold. Mine was 1.75 MB.

Seems like exactly what I did. Maybe the txt file was named wrong I'm going to give it another shot now. Thanks!

How big was the USB drive you were using. I tried updating the firmware the other day and I suspect the reason it wouldn't work was my USB size may be too large.

Use the Toyota file from the video just to test your steps are solid. The image should be crisp.

Finally got it sorted out and got a custom image to work. I'm thinking that the txt file was my original problem. Thanks for all the help!

So where exactly do you need to tap the screen for the 10 series? I keep hitting the menu button and it doesn't work.

For the secret menu? It's the top left corner of the normal screen (on standby) X2 bottom left x2 top left x1 and bottom left x1

Ah! I was tapping directly in the corners (red button) and it didnt' work. I often hit the squares menu. I moved in about a half an inch, the green dots and it worked great.

What does annoy me is that I can't get the files to take yet. I think it's the drive I've picked. When running the updates I know that it was VERY finicky about which USB drive you used.

I used a 64 GB Samsung stick that I had laying around. I'm guessing you are having the same problem I was having. The text file I was using wasn't correct.

    Go to this video https://youtu.be/FS9KdDIyl2o?si=A1Q_xiY-86-J0NA9

and in the description he has a bunch of pictures files and the text file that worked for me. In the text file change the version to 9999. Also to use a picture you'll have to edit the picture. I did this using a program called GIMP. You will have to scale the picture to 1280x720 and save it as a BMP in 16 bit full color 5 6 5 ratio.

That's what I was using his demo files.
The PNY stick I used - no go
I couldn't get my Rally USB drive to work either (but I thin it's dead)
I tried some off brand micro USB reader - worked great!

Anyway - thanks for the help - more stuff to add to the big thread.

Now we need to petition Kenwood to be able to shut off the widgets, delete the now dead weather widget completely and it'll be perfect.
