Anyone know of any mid height bed toppers?

I saw this picture and I’m wondering what this is and who makes it

What's the point?! That said, I want to know who makes it.

I would imagine to secure things inside, while also providing a weight bearing structure for a RTT or something.

The good news is it's only $435 when you get it in over 50 pieces.

lol what in the world

That’s a pretty interesting idea though. It would be perfect for a RTT and a decent amount of storage in the bed.

$700 for the assembled version seems somewhat reasonable compared to just getting a CBI bed rack, however the half canopy website is totally sus. It's literally called Made In China. I probably got a virus just opening it. Factory Manufactured Truck Canopy for Toyota Old Tantu Half Height U Style - Tent and Box Truck Canopy (made-in-china.com)

lol that’s so funny, yeah I probably wouldn’t trust it. Especially if someone is gonna be putting a roof top tent up there…you might wake up upside down in the bed of your truck when it collapses.

I know, right! I can't stop laughing. The best joke ever would just be ordering the 50+ piece kit to a buddies house just to see the chaos of opening it. That's making a very big assumption anything ever showed up.

Can you imagine thinking you pulled an epic prank sending the least expensive kit with like 385 pieces and then he shows up the next day with a fully functional and very well built mid-height shell lol

I've been looking for something along those lines for two reasons: (1) More secure dry storage than with a locking, sliding tonneau and (2) unlike with a full-height shell, I can keep my wedge RTT flush with the roofline.

Well, technically, you could attempt to get one at a reasonable price and try it out. It would be more useful than a bed rack and could serve a purpose. One person could probably take it on and off and you would definitely get looks driving around town.

I leave my RTT on full-time. I don't have a major issue with my current setup (Retrax and 14" Yakima rack), aside from the bed often being completely stuffed with gear because I lose about a foot of bed space with the Retrax. This is interesting, but I'm holding out for more info on a more expensive but probably better engineered design (https://xtrusion-overland.com/collections/xo-skltn), mostly because they claim to have a method for flush-mounting RTTs.

You do make a really good point about how the RTT would be flush with the truck roofline and easier to justify leaving it on all the time.

In other news, I was quoted just under $5k for an AluCab cab high canopy with windows at the local overland shop on Friday. I'm guessing there is a difference in quality between the 2 companies, but if there wasn't, it makes you think twice.
