Here’s what I got. With doors closed, armrest lock/unlock buttons work fine. When I open door to get out and press lock button, doors lock for a second and then pop back unlocked. Neither one of fobs will lock/unlock doors. Panic buttons work.
The only way to lock/unlock doors is with key in door lock. Any ideas?

    *EDIT*
I unplugged the portable phone charger battery pack from the cigarette lighter port and all is back to normal. No idea what that has to do with door locks.

    Maybe the vehicle battery?

This happened years ago to my Ram and it turned out the battery was going dead.

Are you trying to lock it with the door open or closed. It'll lock unlock when the door is open. If it's closed, check the pressure switch on the door jam.

It will lock/unlock with the door closed, but alas, I still have to get out. When I open the door and push lock button on armrest, it locks for a second and then unlocks.
If I push door jamb button in, door will lock, but when I release button and shut the door, it immediately unlocks.

I believe that's to prevent you from locking your keys in the car. Push the switch in the jam with the door open then you can lock the doors with the door open

Yes, I can lock the door when I push the jamb button. When I release the button, it stays locked. When I shut the door, it immediately unlocks.

That button on armrest is safety/security feature so the truck is making sure you aren't locking with the key in it. To lock it, use the fob. Or close the door and lock it with button on armrest with you inside. Mine is in same way.

Neither one of my fobs will lock/unlock the door. Panic buttons work. Both fobs have new batteries.
Until just a few weeks ago,I could lock it with door open with the armrest button and the fob worked. Something has gone afoul.

Maybe FOB is defective, ask Toyota for a replacement?

Is the truck new to you? Is the issue new?

I’ve had the truck about 6 months. Problem started 2 weeks ago.

Surely both fobs aren’t defective. And causing the armrest buttons to stop working when door is open.

Well, take it to Toyota and they will diagnose the problem. It could be a button, lose wire, etc.

I took it to the local dealership. They said it would be at least 3-3 1/2 hours before they could even look at it and diagnostic fee was a little over $200. I’m just exploring other options.

Follow me here. I know that armrest button won’t successfully lock the door with the door open and key in the switch. It will lock but immediately unlock. From what I’ve read, the fob won’t lock/unlock with the key in the switch. For some reason, truck thinks the key is in the switch when it’s not. Bad sensor? What is the name of the sensor?
