I like Watkins Glen being in the playoffs. Not a fan of the Roval at all. Time to go back to the oval.

A few additions to make me feel cool.
Now, my money is on the 22 winning it all. LOL, effing 22! I suspect the 48 lost some weight when it went 8' in the air. I get it, it's on the team to make sure the parts stay on the car. But with as much air as these cars are getting and the way the underbody is now. You are literally grinding some of the car away on the track. I am sure HMS is pushing the limit but that is what it takes to get a car to be competitive. I am sure HMS will appeal but I hope it does not turn into one of those deals where both the 48 and 22 are in. I feel for Bowman though.
HMS is better off not having them all in it. When it has all the cars in they cannot focus efforts on one team and then the performance for them all is less. I will be surprised if the 9 makes the final 4. Chase runs well at the paperclip but Vegas and homestead are not strong for him. The 5 and 24 should be pretty safe barring a big failure of multiple DNF's.
I am pretty sure the 9 has the speed to win a lot more. I just do not think this gen car suits Chase at all. I suspect we will see Dale Jr level success for Chase each year in this car. He has the gentlemen's style drive like his father and runs consistent but to be great in this car you have to drive it over the limit to win and Chase does not do that. In the last gen car, Chase seemed to have a feel for getting more out of the car. This car just does not suite some drivers. At the end of the day I am not sure he cares either. He is not going to beat the factory car being the 5. Jeff's heart is with the 24. A legacy of greatness needs to be restored for the 48 and then you have the 9. Chase lives in GA. HMS has no attachment to his number. They allow him to do his thing, give him good equipment and in return. He gets paid. He gets to race and win some. He brings in a ton of cash and sponsors and that's kind of the deal.

You can clearly see something flying off the car when his backend went 3 feet in the air. Bad on the team for not recognizing it. Bad on NASCAR for not recognizing it as well?

Although NASCAR said they were "way under" the 17lb buffer for minimum weight.

Drove up to Concord last Thursday. Visited Stewart-Haas. They have a lot of body panels for sale. Also, everything in the gift shop is 30% off.

Backtracked to the NC Racing Hall of Fame and left with a tire of Chae Briscoe's Darlington-winning car for $30. It's still in my backseat because I don't know what to do with it, as my wife isn't a fan of race car parts.

I stopped by the Simpson Racing shop and ran into Bubba Pollard, BJ McLeod, and Erik Jones.

I stopped by Jr. Motorsports, and they were selling a lot of sheet metal out of the garage bay. It was Dale Jr.'s birthday, so he wasn't around.

Headed North to Stuart, Virginia, and stayed for the night.

I showed up at the Wood Brothers shop Friday AM, and the lot was empty. A sign on the door said: "Closed until Tuesday." I was pretty heartbroken because I'd looked forward to this trip and had called and confirmed the date with them a month prior. Mrs Kim Wood (Leonard's daughter) pulled up and apologized, saying the shop manager had to travel out of town. I explained that we'd driven up from Georgia with an old hood we wanted them to take a look at. She invited us in, and within 5 minutes, we were speaking with Len Wood. He guided me as I backed up to the transporter bay. Five more minutes and Eddie Wood was there. Mrs Kim came out and said, "Leonard will be right over. He's shopping at Wal-Mart."

The Wood brothers popped on the lights to the museum and spent the next hour just chatting and looking over old race cars with us. We went to their parts room and sorted through old car parts dating back to the 1960s. They didn't have to do any of this for us. They were supposed to leave for Charlotte but took the time to open the shop, sit, and talk with us for an hour. They authenticated my hood (1996) based on tiny details I would've missed. They all signed the hood and we headed back South.
