Hey all, new to the forums, decided to get some input on a self inflicted issue. I have a 2021 SR5 which I like, no issues or complaints other than we're having a second kid and the car seat situation in the taco is a complete cluster eff. So I put in an order for a 2024 F150 Lariat just for fun back in June because a dealer decided to price match a really good offer. So I put in the order and decided to think about it. Now it's time to take delivery and I can't for the life of me make up my mind. There is a perfectly balanced list of pro's and cons to both and I'm completely stuck. I always wanted an F150 and absolutely love how they drive and how comfortable they are inside. To say that this truck would be a necessity would be a lie, because eventually we will upgrade to a large SUV as a family hauler. So at best this truck will be a temporary family hauler and mostly a toy with an occasional load of compost for the garden or some rocks for a landscaping project. Anyway need to decide by sometime tomorrow so I can let the dealer know to move on to someone else.

F150. I loved my 2nd gen Taco but man the power, quietness, comfort, towing, MPGs and handling of this 2016 Lariat is sooo much better.

Why not a 4Runner or Rav4? Just get the 4-person family hauler now.

I'm actually amazed that a bigger bulkier truck like the F150 handles so much better than the Tacoma. Strange that they couldn't figure that out a little better. Biggest worry is the reliability. The type of horror stories that F150 owners have, you just don't hear from Tacoma owners.

I had issues with the transmissions on my old Taco and my current F150. I've had to do a few more things to the F150 but if I did it all over again I wouldn't change my decision. For every day use the F150 is so much nicer and more of a joy to drive.

My favorite feature the Lariats have is the 4A/AWD! That alone makes it worth it to me.

What engine transmissions does the f150 you ordered come with? Ford knows how to make a damn good truck, many horror stories can be avoided if you buy a reliable engine/transmission combo, tacomas only two choices for engines and both are never cutting edge when first available in tacomas so toyota can deal with the wrinkles before.
Edit - I should specify that I was a Ford dealer tech for about 7 years but left in 2022 so I won't know about recent changes they made.

If you have kids get the Ford. Not even close.

I raised 2 kids, currently with 5 grandkids. I didn't buy a Tacoma until my youngest moved out of the house. The Tacoma did fine for about 10 years until the grandkids came along. I still have my Tacoma, but it's my 3rd vehicle. Went back to a crew cab F150 as my primary truck in 2014.

I agree with them knowing how to make a truck. If they didn't make a half decent truck then why would they sell soooo many every single year. The 10R80 seems to be fickle though.

I’d stay with the taco , fords can be hit or miss with issues . We’ve had good ones and really bad ones . Plus the taco will keep its value better, and of course the ford will ride better , it’s a full-size truck so not really a comparison.Plus full size trucks are a pain sometimes to park and move around , at least that’s how I feel

I would say that if the two kids are going to be in the truck a lot, I’d get the F150. If they aren’t going to be in the truck much, stick with the Tacoma. The backseat of the Tacoma is just so small and when they grow up it won’t be fun having two full size humans back there.

Guessing it has the 36gal fuel tank too? That's another thing I love on the F150. I drive about 400 miles a week for work and what not. I can go almost 2 weeks before fill ups.

Yea, 36 Gal tank. Definitely looking forward to that. Exactly double the size of the taco.

You'll love seeing the range being in the 6 to 700s!
