Giant puffball mushrooms. Pretty rare find. I saw two close together in the woods and thought they were human skulls until I got up on them. Came home and googled them to find out if they are edible. Wish I'd known when I found them.

Walk there all the time ,it’s about 5 miles from my house . You used to be able to walk right down to the falls . People would jump off the J rock and swim . Ever since Covid too many people discovered this place and ruined it . Leaving garbage behind not picking up dog poop . They are blocking off the steps going down to the bottom of the falls and building an observation deck of some sort :(
Most days in the summer there is a state park employee hanging out up there and one down in the parking lot .

That’s sad. I’ve been going here occasionally for about a decade….we went there and there was a bunch of excavation but we walked down to the falls anyway…I can say I probably won’t be as inclined to go back if there’s only an observation deck. We would swim down a ways if there wasn’t too much water, have a picnic etc. It saddens me when they change things like that.

Agreed! this was a ridge adjacent to the North Fork of the Entiat River leading up to Cardinal Peak. I crested a snowy Pyramid Peak that same day and wrote about the experience on a notepad someone left up there in an ammo box.... this time, a dozen years ago. Maybe it's still up there?

The first I saw were hiking Mt Rainier back in the seventies. I wonder if the ones in the Black Hills were transplanted from Washington State...

There’s a lot of prairie between them and Sundance or Devils tower. I remember a bunch of antelope out there. Google says the goats in Custer were a gift from Canada

They run across the face of vertical cliffs like I run across flat parking lots (well, if I pay attention to my feet!). Amazing critters.

That's an old galvanized minnow bucket made in the 1950's. My father had one of those.

I've seen these goats around Logan Pass in Glacier National Park. Sometimes they come in close to the visitor's center, usually on nice days.

Pretty crazy how they got mining equipment this far up in the mountains. Nearest "road" or railway would have been Dutch Miller Gap and that's over the ridge easily 5 miles away
