I use a few Pownergy rechargeable, but they don't work well in all devices. I never use them for work. Plus, for outdoor actuators, alkaline is king. I guess I could make more money by invoicing the customer for the hour charge time...
It's usually only $80 for a pair of AAA batteries. That's reasonable.

Another successful Moab trip in the books. We ran behind the rocks, Moab Rim, steel bender + flat pass, and Lockhart basin. We attempted to do cliff hanger but the third obstacle down is absolutely massive these days so we tucked our tails and hit the road.

I'm at a crossroads with the solid axle I have sitting in the garage. The first gen performed so well for being a basic build, I'm not sure if it's worth the time to SAS it loose some comfort and still end up doing the same trails I do now.....

Also I'm amazed how the first gen single locked on bald old 35s out performed my double locked third gen on 37s :boink:

I cleared cliffhanger without winching earlier this year. Should've tried it!

What line did you take on this obstacle? None of the boulders were there and I didn't see a winch point above. Are you locked in the front?Screenshot_20241013-124550.png

Funny story, there was a lone golf cart (SxS) stuck trying to come up that ledge when I went down. He had to winch off me.

IIRC, going back up, I put the driver tire in that notch where the Jeep's passenger tire is going down. Walked right up.

Yes to the front locker. I would say it's necessary for that trail.

That's awesome nice work. I actually got a few pictures this time. Perhaps we will give cliffhanger a go next year. We are quickly running out of new trails to run out there.

Cliffhanger is my favorite out there.

I've done Pritchett once too, but had to winch twice. Would like to give that another go after the last round of work on the shitbox.

A 1st gen on 35s with a little work makes a surprisingly capable rig!

Ever watch Trail Mater on Youtube? He's driven those trails in a dually on 33s (I think; he might have moved to 35s). Always fun to see someone make the most of a tastefully-built truck.

I think your last comment is key. If you plan to run the same trails or similar, and run familiar lines, I would say stay IFS. I've had a blast running most of the trails here in Colorado, but I would like to be able to run some of the harder trails I've yet to hit, and for some of the trails I've done before, I'd like to go back and try harder lines. For "me" since RCLT isn't an option, I've decided to go SAS next year.

Let me know If it's taking up too much space in 6 months :D

Couldn't agree more. 35s turned the best gen into a Tonka toy. Point and go. I'm getting tired of changing r/p's though. Think im on no.5 since getting a toyota one is impossible

    A little work?!?

I think the weight is a huge difference, my 4th gen 4runner and 2nd/3rd gens tacos are probably a 1000 or more pounds heaver, not counting passengers, which I always have more of as well.

Considering selling my 2007 Tacoma TRD off-road with 115xxx. Anybody have a rough idea what I should sell it for?

Photo dump from a few outings over the past few weekends. Some are near BV and others out near Fraser.

At that point you may as well just have both front and rear lc80s!
Are you running a rear lc80? The off center pumpkin raises questions in my mind without doing homework.

80 rear end yes. It's only offset 3", haven't noticed any vibrations.
I am toying with a SAS. Just reading right now and doing my homework.

    It's pretty much all bolt-ons. :anonymous::oops::sawzall::welder:

Frame height is big too. I think it's like 6" higher with the same tire size.

Ring and pinion or rack and pinion?

If you can't get an OEM rack anymore that will be problematic...

there’s a tundra swap for the 2nd gen… is there an upgraded rack swap for the 1st gen?

The challenge has changed from conquering an obstacle to keeping the rig alive long enough to get it home....
I think if I was ever to build another, I'd go with 1st gen single cab 4 banger, no lift or cheap lift, skinny 34's, AC, winch, flatbed. Keep some of the challenge with minimal repairs afterwards.
