I have Toyo AT3’s on my 2020 DCLB, 265/75R16 116T Standard Load. I run them at about 30psi as per the Toyo load chart.

I have 35,000 miles on them, and in the last 5k miles I’ve developed some serious alternate lug wear on all 4 tires. With this, the tires have become VERY loud and squirrely at speeds over 60mph. These tires have been on pavement 99.9% of their life and rotated every 10k miles.

I know they’re rated for 60k miles, but I bought them online from a non authorized dealer, so the warranty is out the window.
Has anyone else had issues with these tires? I’ve loved the traction over the last 35k miles, they’re just too darn loud and uncomfortable now. Very different experience from when they were new. IMG_7200.jpg IMG_7096.jpg

Yes, and they got warrantied out at about 27k. the prorated rate of the warranty went to falcon at4s which put the cost a little less than $500 for all 4.

That said, I did have some camber alignment that got knocked out of spec offroading that caused some inside wear unevenness, but that didn’t account for all the tires having such quick wear.

how do you like the AT4’s? They’re tempting especially since they’re offered in 255/85R16 SL.

I just had an alignment done in January. But either way I can’t think of any sort of alignment/pressure/use issue that would cause alternate lug wear.

What is "alternate lug wear" ?
Tire warranty is from the manufacturer not the selling place.
You could go to a shop that sells the brand and see if they can help you.

I have the same tires in the 285/70r17 size C load. I've had them for a little over 40k miles and they are wearing great. I usually run them around 35-37psi. I ran the AT2's previously in the 265/75R16 size load c and they wore just like yours are.

look at the pictures. On the outer bands of tread, every other lug is wearing differently. You can see some light and some dark from what’s touching the ground and what’s not.

OP, that wear looks like under-inflation. Are your tires E load rated or C load rated? E load tires should always be at a minimum of 35 lbs PSI from my research.

They’re ok. Definitely heavier, and you can tell.
We will see how they ride this winter.

He said in the first post…SL…

so neither a C or a E…. 28-30 psi is the proper psi.

Huh. Yeah, yours look wayyy better than mine.

maybe I should try and find a shop to warranty them. The shop who installed them doesn’t sell Toyo.

I’m on the verge of ditching all terrains and going for a set of Michelins. I’m married now so I don’t have to impress anyone at the grocery store.

Ahh, missed the standard load. Reading too fast. Still looks like under-inflation to me. I've seen tires wear like that when they were under-inflated though.

yeah? It’s strange how it’s happening in recent miles. Prior to crossing 30k miles, I had no complaints. They were expectedly loud for what they are. But handled great. Now they feel like tractor tires.

Usually when I see this kind of wear, it's from not rotating the tires often enough.

That, or not using the correct rotation pattern for radial tires:
    • Tires on drive axle go straight to non-driven axle (same sides),
Tires on non-driven axle get crossed over to drive axle (opposite sides).

On a Tacoma this would be rear tires straight up to front, front tires to opposite sides on rear axle.

I've also found some tires are much more prone to this than others and have to be rotated more often (there's been some past threads about this on Toyo AT3s so it would appear the AT3 is among them).

Unless its the camera angle, it does look like yours are starting to do it too.

I will admit I do not cross rotate them often but do rotate them every 5k when I do the oil service. I have cross rotated them maybe 2-3 times. Usually just go front to back from laziness haha.

The LTs wear much better than SLs due to being a harder compound.

Technically, you should be at 27 psi and not 30, but it’s probably not that important. The SL Toyos are a very fast wearing tire due to their sticky rubber. That’s what makes them grip well, but the downside is they don’t last.

The LT Toyos are much better about wear, but their traction suffers comparatively. Pros and cons.

I cross rotate as described, but I’ve been doing it every 10k. (Every other oil change).

Ive been running 28 psi (30 if carrying a load) in the summer and 30 psi in the winter.

I’m convinced this is why they were only around $200 per tire. Stay tuned for a Michelin LTX review.

Those will wear like iron. I don’t know why they didn’t come out with 265/75 for the Defender LTX MS2 though. Can only still get the old LTX in that size and I don’t know how long those will stay around for.
