Hey y'all, I have a question about replacing the sound system on a second gen taco. My budget is very low ($250), and I am mostly interested in getting some better sound quality/bass as the stock setup does not have clear lows. I have been looking at the kicker 6x9/tweeter combos, and I am wondering if the tweeters are even worth replacing. What have y'all done to your sound systems with a similar budget?
    Thanks!

For my 06 access cab I went with Pioneer. these 6x9's for the front doors and these 6.5's for the rears. Crutchfield will include the mounting brackets and wiring adapters for free iirc. I also did the DS18 tweeters after the other speakers and I haven't been super impressed for the money. They're not bad, but they were pretty pricey for what I feel I got out of them. Your mileage may vary.

    Welcome to TW!

    You want bass.

Add a subwoofer somehow. Leave the speakers alone.

You can do it on your budget, especially if you can do the install yourself.

Nothing else will come slightly close.

I concur with @kozy -- Crutchfield is excellent.

Would I be able to add a sub using the original head unit? I am very new to sound systems and I don't know if the stock head unit has a sub output or if I need to switch head units to one that has a sub output

Yes, you can tap into the speaker wires -- your sub amp will need 'speaker level' inputs.

There is lots of info online, and plenty of helpful videos. One of the key things is to learn how to wire things correctly, so you don't make a rats nest of faulty connections. It will take some work to do it right, but you can do it.

I've replaced both door speakers and the tweeters. Yes, in my opinion, it's worth changing the tweeters but I have a little ringing in my ears so I need a little more 'crispness' in the high ranges.
I wasn't going for more bass so I'm pleased with the upgrade.

I have the Subaru tweeters coming, starting there in my 2015 AC so I'll report back soon. A question I have that the OP may want to know as well: My AC doesn't have rear speakers. Assuming my head unit amp is the same as all others would I get more power to upgraded front speakers? In other words if using a stock amp does removing the rear speakers boost power to the front if doing a front speaker upgrade or are front/rear power separate?

The amp in the stock head unit isn't powerful enough to run a sub. You'd need an aftermarket amp under the seat to boost everything or built into the sub to just boost the sub

I think the 2015 access cab has tiny rear speakers hidden up in the headliner.

If I adjust the sound output in the head unit menu to rear only I get nothing. Try it

Headunit alone will make a difference to your speakers. Noticed it on my mine. :D
