Family is growing, looking into used Tacoma 4door so that I can add two carseats in the back.
Deciding between 2nd or 3rd gen Tacoma. My 1st gen has a special place in my heart but the Access Cab is way too small for two car seats..

What mileage are people getting in their 3rd gens with 3.5L?
    Anywhere in the 300k+ range?
Earliest year being 2016 for 3rd gen, so maybe too early to tell?

Any insight is helpful, thanks in advance

I’m probably not the person to ask. December 11 will be two years since I bought my 22 SR5. I’m already at 211894 miles. Out of bumper to bumper in 5 months out of drivetrain in 11. Been from Fairfax VA to Barrow AK and currently in the area just north of Puntas Arenas Chile.

Granted I don’t have the 300k magical number that you are asking for but I think that with the exception of @bigoldbeef I have put more miles on a third gen in less time than most. Anyone can hit 300k in 6 years. I’ll hit that fantasy number before June of 25. That’s 2.5 years. But like I said I may not be the person to ask.

I’ve haven’t had an issue. I thought I had a crossover pipe leak but a 1/4 turn with a socket wrench took care if it.

I’ve been through 4 sets of tires currently on fifth.

Dump and fill every 30k on trans. Diffs every 40k. Xfer every 50k.

I have 98451 documented off road miles. Every day here in Argentina and Chile I drive 375 plus miles a day. All off road. Not gravel roads. Off road. I work for 4 hours and drive for 6 hours every day still on stock suspension.

If 300k is the only thing you’ll take then I think @bigoldbeef and one other guy I’m unsure of are the only ones that can answer to you.

Best insight I can give is see how much room you need for the car seats - go find a 3rd Gen and see how they fit back there and if that works for you up front in terms of available legroom.

I have the crew cab 2016 Limited with only 155K miles - there isn't a lot of room for car seats AND having the front seats back enough for driver/front passenger comfort.

Of course it depends on how old your kids are, the size of the car seats and how much room the parents need.

    Best of luck to ya!

Definitely take a long test drive with the family! The Tacoma is not a very good family car. The back seats are small AF. I would look somewhere else, but there will be a couple here that tell you they shoehorn kids back there.

how the kids fit is more important than if you make it to 300k

Like stated above, rear seats are very cramped.

If you like to sit me (gangsta lean:cool:), then it doesnt leave much room behind.

Lots of high mileage 3Gs, I wouldnt worry about it. They are slowly proving to be just as reliable as beloved 1st and 2nd gens.

I think you need to lean to a full size truck or an SUV if possible. Kids are going to grow with time. The Tacoma will not.

I've done two kids 0-12 so far with a double cab. The rear facing days were a smidge tight, but other than that it's been just fine. Sure, Tundra crewmax would have been a lot better, but they're good bit more expensive, and I can't park it in the garage.

There’s one guy on YouTube (I forget if he’s on here too) he has a quicksand third gen and over 300k miles

obviously maintenance pays a huge role but so does the type of driving, donut media did a pretty good video how short trips or local trips wear out your engine fastener than lengthy longer trips (basically the cold starts out the most strain on your motor)

wife already has the 4runner as the family car so hopefully that will be big enough.
Just on those off-days when I'll need to have the kids. So in this case just interested in reliability
