Spacer pucks vs preloading coilover

Bought the truck with a foam cell pro kit from Ironman already installed. Medium duty suspension was sagging and bottoming out pretty bad with the weight I have on the truck. So I ordered OME heavy duty leaf springs(Ironman was out of stock and I have more confidence in OME parts) and heavy duty coils for the front coilovers. Plus a full seal kit for rebuilding the coilovers and shocks.

The leaf springs say like 2.75 inches of lift and the front coilovers are like 2-3. I figured that’d be fine if I just adjust the coilover a little bit. So my truck is still sitting in the shop, waiting for extended brake lines to come in. But my mechanic is saying that it looks like the front is going to end up sitting close to an inch lower than the rear. Obviously level is the goal. Hopefully we can adjust the coilover to make it work. But I’ve got a heavy arb bumper and winch on the front so I can’t adjust it too much without making it stiff as hell.

Once all the parts are in then hopefully this will be simple to figure out. But here’s my question. My mechanic is saying that a 3/4 inch to 2 inch spacer puck might be needed for leveling. Everything that I’ve been told and read says to quite simply avoid spacers and blocks at all costs. I’m not building a crawler, it’s an offroad/long term camping rig that I would prefer to not have my suspension explode on me in middle of nowhere Central America… but this is the third mechanic that’s recommended spacers. And I’m just wondering if perhaps I’m being overly cautious, or perhaps there’s a lot of mechanics out there without much experience building rigs that are as dependable as they are capable…? Modding a Tacoma is turning out to be a lot more confusing than anticipated lol so any advice or input would be appreciated! Thank you!

lastly, I’d prefer not to but if OME coilovers are needed to get this thing sitting right then I’m willing to order more parts. Just trying to do this as efficiently and affordably as possible.

    Nice truck.

Is that 1" rake with your bed loaded with gear for an ol trip? If not i say a little rake is good so the truck will level under load.

Roughly an extra 50-150 pounds more depending on the trip. I’ll install a rear bumper eventually but it could be a couple years before I do that… but ya I think you’re right, adjusting the coilover and having a little bit of rake will probably work out just fine

Level is for looks. Rake is for function.

Looks like you are a function guy to me......
