Hi over here checking if anyone can help me diagnose this issue. I got a 2015 tacoma 2.7L 4cyl i just got the engine rebuilt at a machine shop. I bought all new parts directly from toyota.

The issue is whenever i start the car the chain rattles until the tensioner picks up pressure. I bought everything new at the toyota dealership and got it installed by the machine shop. Now im getting that noise at start up but as soon as the oil pressure raises it stops the noise and sounds perfect. Anyone had this issue? Im gonna be replacing the tensioner again soon i got it already. Any tip on something else ive might be missing or would be good to check.

    Any help will be appreciated.

I would be suspecting the VVTI rather than the chain.

I tought about it but it was replaced, and after inspection noise is coming from the chain and when the tensioner gets pressure it tensions the chain and stops the noise.

I think the tensioner is a ratchet device that when it goes out it doesn't relax afterwards... Unless you press the release lever.

One of the mechanics told me it was a hidraulic tensioner, whenever the pump starts sending oil it tenses the chain. Maybe he was lying, what else woule tension the chain?

That device I posted a picture of is hydraulic. Look at the lower side you will see the ratchet teeth. Once it is pushed out the teeth lock it and doesn't allow it to relax back until it is released by the lever.

You may have an issue with the timing chain. Have you thought about maybe the hydraulic lifters could be the issue too.

If it takes that long for the tensioner to pressurize the the lifters would also be having an issue.

Its supposed to have everything new. Chain tensioner and guides. I did not change the hidraulic lifters tough. But that would cause the tensioner to release?

No the hydraulic lifters wouldn't cause the tensioner to release.
