This 3000 mile SR5 got hit in the LR quarter, door and cab corner. We took the bed off and this black “cover” on the backside of the cab doesn’t cover anything. Looks like a factory pool noodle mod? Anyone have any idea what this about?
The build quality on the truck is ok but a few things I noted, the front grille bolts loose and the anti chip tape on the front corners of the bed look like they were put on by a kindergarten class. 34073E90-B25D-4FE1-8EC7-BB670638F241.jpg EB40BD3D-99DE-4432-89BD-3A26B31D28B6.jpg

Some pics of the frame if anyone is interested.
I was watching the thread on the crooked beds, there are two pins that locate the bed. If you took them off you could shift the bed a half inch in any direction.

Looks like the same material as the inner fender liners. A trim tool can pop it out and you can see what is behind the curtain. It is possible the owner went exploring and forgot to tighten down that bolt. I would never forget to tighten down a bolt that I loosened.

Kind of hard to interpret what youre saying inregards to the bed...
Are you saying theres no wiggle room inregards to adjustment due to the alignment pins, or there still is?
    just loosen bolts & shift?

The pins locate the position of the bed to a fixed position.

Yes it’s the same type of material as the front liners, it’s held in with threaded plastic nuts and there’s nothing behind it.

I totally understand what the pins do…
Some beds that I’ve seen are out of alignment like an inch to an inch…
Are you stating if you lose in the four bed bolts there’s zero adjustment / wiggle room?
Locked in a totally fixed position due to those alignment pins?
I’m guessing not, there has to be some slop I hope…

So need to cut-off alignment dowels to get movement....

Zero adjustment. Bed is locked into position. I suppose you could just remove the one at the front and pivot the bed slightly. I personally wouldn’t remove both.

That seems to be the consensus and probably the norm for NA-made Toyotas circa 2024. Not sure the attention to detail is still there, never mind the bigger powertrain issues that have undermined reliability.

Do you know if the previous gens also have those alignment pins "locks"
I brought the alignment issue up to my writer & he stated, they seen that plenty of times in previous gens & they have fixed them...
cutting-off the pin wouldnt be the end of the world, most likely used to make assembly at factory easier..

Thanks for the pics Rusty. "There's a lot going on under the bed." I remember when that wasn't the case in any pick-up ('must be getting old).

Most every pickup bed I take off has locating pins of some type. I can’t remember if 2nd and 3rd have them. I would assume they do.
There’s a metal sleeve inside the holes of the composite bed, so it’s got something sturdy to clamp down on.

I heard whatever motor whirring from there/near there a few days ago in my garage. Went on for a looong time. Much longer than my 3G.

Gonna guess it has something to do with reducing drag/wind noise/ air damn type of thing
