Hey, Im new to the group so I just had quick question please.....I got the new aftermarket skid plate and was installing but when I remove the "molding" in the front the truck looks unfinished. Is there anyway to have the skid plate on AND the moulding ?

What model are you driving? Only asking because not all the trim levels have that skirt in the front. I think it's something they only add to the "road" models to get more fuel efficiency... So I'd expect a Sport to have one, but not the OR. Not sure about the sr5, it's probably same as the sport. Same with the Limited.

My feeling is that even if you kept the skirt in front, it would be ripped off in pieces if you ever actually used the skid plate...

edit: I googled it because I know skirt isn't the right word. I think it's called an "air dam" or a deflector. lol.

First question to ask yourself is will this plate be banged off rocks regularly or is it a just incase item? I had the TRD one originally wasn't a fan of how it scooped and collected mud and dirt due to the gap up top. Moved over to okx engine/trans skid and havnt looked back. It's taken a few hard hits and fir aluminum held up great so far.

As for some of the complaints on how the mounts can bend on this style of plate. I would much rather have a weak point built into the skid than have all of that energy transfered into the frame.

Neither ... that's not oil. Dew on dirt left that look. It sat outside beside garage while I left it off waiting for replacement front diff Lexus drain/fill plugs to arrive.

Sorry if this is stupid question. But is it safe with cute jack stands on concrete blocks, supporting your Tacoma? I get blocks are sideways, and Tacoma not that heavy. Can handle?

I have been advised ... and will use wood blocks in the future. The rear wheels were on ramps, and the only reason I wanted it that high was to level the truck for driveline fluid changes.

There are no stupid questions, except the ones you don't ask. :hattip:

    TRD PRO.
I saw a lot different aftermarket kid plates from different vendors - all of them are welding front diff protection part. so i dont think it is reliable.

TRD Pro one for the engine skid. Got a killer deal on it.

I don’t do heavy rock crawling so it’s good enough for me for now.

Awhile back, I installed TRD Pro skid plate on my 2023 Tacoma. Looks clean, and pretty.
