Doubtful. One of mine was hit and run. It's considered a civil matter when there are no injuries.

Considering contacting Target & ask them to review the parking lot footage of the time your GF was inside Target shopping, the parking lot cameras might have caught the hit & run.

I’m glad you talked your GF out of slashing the dude’s tires. Target’s theft prevention team monitors inside & outside of their stores for marvelous behavior on multiple monitors. Those cameras have the capability of zooming in pretty good.

^Interestingly enough, there was a car accident in the lot when I was at Target earlier today. There appeared to have been a shoving match afterwards and the cops were arriving just as I was entering the store. I came out and there was a cop car blocking me in and two other cops there. I must have missed quite a scene.

It varies from State to State. In California it's a crime. It's a misdemeanor if there are no injuries but it's still a crime punishable by up to 6 months in jail or up to a $1000 fine (VC 20002). In some states it's a felony above a certain dollar amount.

Thanks guys lots of good info here! I'll get her to call the insurance company and file a police report today. Keep your fingers crossed...I'm hoping none of this has to come out of our pockets!

    Kind Regards,
    Ryan

Ryan, this could turn out to be a your word against my word......but when you pulled out and left, I wouldn't think it would be a hit-and-run......and now they could say that you backed into them.....just be prepared and I hope all turns out well.....It could turn out to be a no fault and then the insurance companies would battle it out.....if you took good pics of the scene then insurance could maybe prove he hit you and make him pay......

any news about the report Ryan?

whats up WilsontheDog? Normally you catch these details, are you slippin?

I just went thru (almost) the same thing. Some guy backed into me and put a hole in my front bumper and dented my skid plate. The cops were called and they spoke to us separately. I found out when I picked up the report, that claimed I rear-ended him. There were no witnesses. It was his word against mine.

I was so worried I'd have to pay my deductible. I had his insurance look at my truck and they cut me a check the next day. I couldn't believe it.

Definitely go through the insurance, especially since you have the VIN number and can locate the person. Don't pay out of pocket unless you have to. I got estimates and an OEM bumper runs about 230 (including flex additive, etc).

    Good luck!

I am looking for an opportunity like this to happen to me. If this happened, I'd get a new All Pro Steel bumper for the front and rear.

No because he backed into the truck already and had to pull up a bit...so upon pulling forward, he had taken the bumper already. :( The ball hitch was slightly underneath.

    Kind Regards,

Typically...at least here...city or highway officers will investigate accidents...but on private property county deputies will investigate the accident

the first thing done wrong was pulling the vehicle off before an officer was called to the scene...and then leaving and coming back...you'll be lucky if you get a police report or money from his insurance company

AND FOR GOODNESS SAKES...its a VIN not a VIN NUMBER! :D

To everyone...should something like this happen to anyone else here...dont leave the scene...even after recording VIN and vehicle information and taking pictures...call the police...then sit there and wait...
