I just bought an 89 Toyota Pickup. Long story short the clutch fork is not where it should be inside on the the transmission. Is there a way to get it back into place without dropping the transmission?

I've never had any luck, and if its dislodged, its dislodged because of a fault inside the trans.

It's been decades since I've had a 3.0 trans out, but its a simple fork as I recall.

I already know the answer but just trying to save some work. Got the truck cheap and couldnt pass it up. Only has 2k miles on the motor. Was replacement 3 years ago. It's sat for 3 years... they pulled the transmission to rebuild the transfer case and I'm guessing they didn't put it together right. Hasn't started since the transmission was bolted back in. After replacing the starter, slave and master cylinders I got it to crank with the clutch cancelation button. When I tried to start just from the clutch got nothing. Put it in gear, hit the button and it tried to drive off. While replacing the slave cylinder noticed the fork had a ton of movement in every direction. So at this point I'm pretty much thinking got to drop the transmission to fix it. Was just hoping someone had a miracle cure that did not require bellhousing drop.

I went through 3 motors on my 89 3.0. Man I miss that thing!

Bringing back memories lol. Our youngest daughter wants an 80's model square body. This 89 fell in our laps. $500. They thought it was a bad fuel pump after rebuilding the tranfer case and putting in a new clutch. After running through her today we figured out the clutch fork wasn't installed right when they put the transmission back in. I got her to drive forward in first gear with the clutch pushed in and the cancelation button pushed. PS little fuel in the tank (thinking I had to drop it) lol

Welp.... who ever did the transfer case rebuild dropped the whole transmission to do it and installed the clutch backwards, so it wasn't the fork at all.

This has the makings of a cool build thread.

    We need pictures.
