New member here. Bought a used 2018 Tacoma TRD off rd about a month ago. 113k miles. Runs strong. Sounds great. Took it in today for 1st oil change. They found metal in the oil. Looked like glitter. Not a crap ton. But enough for concern. Like I said truck runs and sounds great . Gonna have it checked out again in 500 or so miles. Thinking about getting my oil checked from Blackstone. Anyone else have these issues with these kind of miles?
    Thanks

Bought it from a Volkswagen dealer used so it under there lifetime powertrain warranty. Engine and all internal components covered. Took it to a Toyota dealership for my oil change.

So what did the Toyota dealer recommend to
    Do ?

Also does the VW dealer have to fix it in order for the warranty to work? Or can you present them with a bill from Toyota ?

They said I should notify the dealership I bought it from. Dealership told me when I bought it warranty work can be done anywhere. Just sucks man. Thing runs and drives great. One owner vehicle. Kept maintenance records the whole nie yards.

Like I said it's weird. There's no other symptoms that something is wrong. My bud that owns a garage said to keep an eye on it but I shouldnt freakout....yet.

I'd send a sample in to Blackstone, with comments to alert them to your concern about visible metal. Their comments on their reports are always customized, and they'll have some input for sure.

On the face of it, I'm not terribly frightened for you. A little glint of metal isn't completely unusual. But if it struck the Toyota dealer as remarkable, it deserves followup, for your well-being if nothing else.

Here's a Blackstone oil analysis report from my Gen 2 a year ago, for reference:

If you just had the oil changed, do you now have to drive a certain number of miles to have a representative wear sample? I'm only asking because it seems like you take the oil sample while draining your old oil. How old does it need to be.

    Blackstone says

How long should the oil stay in the engine before I sample it?

We like to see at least 500-1000 miles to get good data. If the engine has a problem, it may very well show up with fewer miles than that, but more miles are preferred.

Just curious, did you actually see the glitter in the oil or was this info relayed to you through the service communication chain? From what I've seen, the techs just open the plug and let the oil run into a funneled drum, which was previously doused by the oil from many other vehicles. Perhaps it's now standard to take a sample of the initial stream to put eyes on it.

Thinking about this a bit more, I reckon that the last few drips from the pan would likely show settled glitter. One wonders.

Since the 3g's use the cartridge filter, it generally picks up any particulates and makes it pretty easy to see when replacing.

Hope it was a fluke OP <3

I just saw the pan the oil was drained into. Feels like the whole thing was b.s. After that guy said" sell it right away. O you're gonna take a lose on the vehicle. Like 6k but at least you won't have to replace the motor" Think the dude wanted me to bite and say sure make me an offer.
