I got my Toyo Open Country AT3 installed today. As I was looking at prices for them online, I noticed that the BFG Trail Terrain that Canadian Tire sells are 3 Peak Mountain Snowflake rated BFGoodrich Trail-Terrain T/A Tire for All Terrain Truck & SUV | Canadian Tire

When I was taking pictures of the tires to list them for sale, I can't find the 3PMSF logo on them, just M+S

So, not all Trail Terrain tires created equal by the looks of it.

Thats right they are Toyota specific OEM versions. They are also about 5 lbs lighter than real Trail Terrains. Ford has an OEM verison of wildpeaks on the maverick that have less tread that the retail versions soo.

I guess that was true of the BFG AT KO as well, there was one size listed as Ford.

Still stupid to put tires like these on a truck for Canada, the 3MPSF version would make more sense.

Trail terrain and all terrain tires are different. The AT ko2s have the 3 peak the trail terrain do not

Went with LT255/75R17 6C. I wanted the 80s for the size, but didn’t want the harsh drive of the 10E.

The 75s are harsher than stock, but not by much. Less body roll too.

I know they are different, just pointing out that’s it’s common to have some models vehicle specific.

Edit to add, the Trail Terrain at Canadian Tire have the 3 peak.

That would be the smart thing seeing that the winters there are sometimes brutal

The 3 peak tires are actually certified and typically different rubber compound. A lot of places where the Tacomas are sold don't have our winter needs. In total I get where most OEM tires have some compromises for a lot of the owners.

I will wait for early winter before I decide to replace mine OEM tires. Reviews do say the OEM are good in winter. Our AWD wagon has 3PMSF tires so I could take that if an early winter work page says it is the right thing to do. The OEM tires have been impressive for how well off road yet civilized so a 3PMSF version would be on my radar if I don't like my early season performance.

Another reason I'm delaying a decision is there are more year-round 3PMSF tires now. It means I can watch the TireRack crowd sourced reviews build up. It has repeated with us and different tire models where the ones getting a lot of positive owner reviews have been overall better than some that get good "expert" and test reviews. Those reviews show aspects that may or may not be important to individuals.

I traded my stock BF tires in for a set of 10-ply Toyos. Those 4-ply BFs weren't going to cut it. To me, that was the issue.

Do you find the 10 ply Toyo rough? I went with 6 just in case.

My dealer was only giving me 100$ off on new tires, I told him to F off.

Nope, they are stiffer. I drive on a lot of rough roads and dislike flats. The 4-plies wouldn't have lasted.
