The tailgate that was paper thin and cheapness of the interior were what had me saying no, I tried, test drove a few cause I'm a taco guy but just cant with this gen, and I am paying cash so its not a freaking issue of affordability for those that want to pull that card. Still think OP made the right move from current gen Tundra.

Yes you are better than I because you have owned many Tacomas. Well just so you know, this is the 4th Gen Tacoma section of the forum and as you have said you don't own a 4th gen so... Go impart your mighty tacoma wisdom on the past gen forums. If you are not impressed with the 4th gen you don't have to get one, pretty simple. For those of us who own them, the overall consensus is it is a much improved truck over the past gens (remains true whether one has owned said past gen or not)

Bro, you don't have to own one gen to be in that gen's section or to impart feedback, help with mods, research, etc. many of us avid LONG TIME tacoma owners are in here doing our research, sharing our feedback as it relates to prior gen experience, etc. So you the guy who has never owned one can say this, from what prior experience? but okay, lol. Its okay to have differing opinions, did I come in here and say its the worst Tacoma ever, no. Chill. It still a good truck with some improvements, some areas that are worse or not improved, some changes that many don't like, some cool things, etc.

No but usually owning a vehicle gives your opinion and input a lot more ground to stand on than someone who maybe took one for a test drive. A quick google search and I see a recall on the Gen 3 that could result in the wheel coming off while driving. Things happen, Toyota seems to take care of their customers. I have not owned a 3rd gen, my Dad has one that I have driven several times and yea, I like my truck more than his. I think the engine pulls harder, the transmission is fine on mountain passes, the technology is a big step up, I just put 33's on my truck without trimming or doing anything at all to make them fit. I am chill, I informed the OP not to listen to the naysayers because most of them don't own a 4th gen, you then proceeded to quote me and take offense all the while not owning a 4th gen.. Bro

Do you not see the logic in your argument here, you have zero prior experience besides several drives with your dad's 3rd gen, never owning any gen Tacoma so you are trying to compare and say your current gen is "overall better" while discrediting the people who have had several test drives of the new gen but have owned for years many other gens. The recall you mentioned, go see how many trucks were actually affected, and look at it a bit harder on what it was (most were fine and had no or some weld splatter but no impact). The engine should pull harder it has a turbo, the transmission should perform better it has more gears, and yes the technology is updated, does that equate to a better truck overall? Some say yes, some say no. How about build quality, overall or long term reliability? Like I said everyone has a different perspective and experience with ownership, but your argument that not owning one discredits you from being a member of this forum or to chime in on threads is ridiculous.

Ok we can start with the fact my 3rd Gen experience actually outweighs your 4th Gen experience. So based on your logic, we can't take seriously anything you say about the 4th Gen since you have zero experience besides test drives with a truck you don't own. Got it. According to Toyota the total number of vehicles in that recall for the third gen is 381,000. According to a Toyota spokesperson, the 2024 vehicle transmission issue is "less than thousands." Hmm we may be on to something here. Let's look a bit harder at what it is, of the "less than thousands." how many have been reported? Ok so the engine is more powerful, we have yet to see the longevity, but so far I would mark more power as better. Transmission with more gears as you said "should perform better" so we will go with better. Sorry I am responding to this as I read through your comment and I am again seeing your logic is that I have no experience with older gens so I can't speak to the 4th gen but then you say that my "argument that not owning one discredits you from being a member of this forum...is ridiculous." Well I think we can at least come to the agreement that logic is not your strong suit. Anyway, I am done with the pissing contest. Thou art Holy for owning several generations and we shall all bow to you. Please do continue to show face in the 4th Gen section, we would be lost without all of your knowledge. Again OP, congrats on the truck. I look forward to hearing your opinion on it (even though it will never be a mighty 3rd Gen)

It is still laughable that you think several drives with your Dad's one generation equates to any experience, but I guess I'll give you that over my test drives of the new gen if you just have to have that win there bud. Yes theres that many in that recall cause guess what they built a whole lot more of them than the current amount of 4th gens with the transmission TSB and oh guess what it maybe expanded as reported in the other forums and groups as people have had issues that are outside the VIN ranges, its also comical you are taking the spokesperson's save face line "less than thousands" sort of like the line they fed the Tundra guys for a while with their engines. But I guess you can have that win too cause verdict is still out how that pans out. That last part makes zero sense I never argued you can't comment on prior gens, you are the one that said because you dont own a gen means you can't comment on one, that was literally your initial post and argument for awhile along with alluding you shouldn't be allowed to comment in this section or participate unless you own one, which I pointed out makes zero sense for the reasons I listed earlier. There was never a pissing contest, and the thou art comment is childish, have never alluded to that just saying prior gen owners can have their input and be just as valid as well which you some how were trying to discredit, which started this whole back and forth. Again your last two sentences are childish, as I mentioned its a great truck in many aspects, and never once said the 3rd gen, 2nd gen, 1st gen were flawless or better. Come on now.

I keep seeing the same few people in here trashing 4th gens. Simply spoiling threads... Totally derailing the thread. We all have our opinions but damn. This is just like when the 3rd gens came out. And they turned out to be great trucks as well. I have been driving Tacomas for ~22 years, still not an expert.

Ha, it really is. I bought my 3rd Gen in October 2015, and I had to get the hell out of that forum a few months later for a long while because there was so much toxicity. I was only coming back in when I had something specific to address.

I don't think anyone has said their an expert. And yep everyone has an opinion based on experience whether test driving, borrowing, owning, etc. I don't think a single person (myself included) said the truck sucked, most of us older gen owners participating in here have intentions of buying or have bought, deposits, etc.

Congrats on new Tacoma ! Still keeping the Tundra here, no way could handle that useless backseat area. The new gen problems are way overblown, not a single issue with my truck and just hit 10k in first year. Best ride so far and we'll see the longevity play out.

Good that you are liking your new Tacoma coming from a Tundra. I thought I'd go from a 2nd Gen to a Tundra, but after sitting in one, it was just too big for me. I thought the wife would very much like the Tundra interior, but she much preferred the Tacoma. Currently, my only frustration is I can't source a 6 foot OEM bed mat. Cheers.

    My first post!
I went from a ‘22 Tundra TRD Pro to a ‘24 Tacoma TRD Pro. No complaints on either truck. The Tundra was just too much truck for the trails. I took the hybrid Tundra on the White Rim three times during COVID. It performed flawlessly every time. It was just too much work / stress trying to avoid body damage with its massive size and wheelbase. After a while, that feeling of too much truck started to occur in everyday life. I sold the Tundra and bought an Ineos Grenadier (awesome) while I waited for the new Taco. I’ve had the Taco for a week. I have 1,100 miles on it with one trip to the desert. It’s nice. I’m sure I’ll miss the Tundra’s massive back seat eventually. We can’t have it all…
