I forgot to mention sometimes the drops are not at opening but later in the day, so who knows maybe your timing will line up. Friend of mine was in Cincy a couple months ago during a drop and it was at 4 or 5 PM. Which makes sense so working people have access too.

Not a huge fan of “drops” of anything. Online, you might get whatever in your cart but be unable to complete your purchase because it gets sniped. Onsite, never a good time to be fair.

I tend to ignore them. For no other reason than I don’t wanna get caught up in the hype.

That’s because you live in California, where often times shit just shows up in grocery stores and liquor stores with very little fanfare. In most of the rest of the country, and in all the control states, the distribution of allocated and limited distribution whiskey is via drop. They come in many forms, and “drop” might just refer to a particular delivery each month that contains the goodies, but it’s the way things work because there isn’t enough to go around. California for some reason operates differently, and magical whiskey genies shower various areas with bottles with no rhyme or reason. I know it’s not the only state where that happens but it’s the best example.

Has nothing to do with where I live. I just don't care for "drops" of anything.

Happy Friday. I know this isn’t a rye, but I couldn’t help myself. I acquired a back up bottle so I had to crack this open. Delicious turkey goodness. Cheers.

I bought a bottle of BH Dary Rye this evening. This is a blend of Canadian and Kentucky Straight Rye and port. It's a low proof (80) and maybe not for everyone. I poured a glass and one of the first things you notice is the very dark cherry aroma. Reviews list strawberry jam but I'm not getting that. Flavor wise, it's a nice dark fruit flavor. Going back to the review, it reads maraschino cherries--these are not at all like dark cherry aroma--anyway, flavor wise, it's more like plums or dates. There's no traditional rye flavor at all and no real finish to speak of. Breaking Bourbon calls its flavor profile very "port forward" and I can agree with that.

It was $50. I'd say it was tasty and worth the $50.
