It is simpler than the double cab- so far the features this 23’ is missing that my 16’ has are: bed light, bed light switch (which costs way too much from Toyota and I’m trying to find a used one if anyone knows of one- I need it in order to put the bed lights in my AC which has the blank slots for the lights in the bed thankfully, but just no switch in the cab- they want over $100 for a stupid switch, no way!), large bed cubbies on both sides (this AC only has one small bed cubby next to the power outlet), sunglasses holder-b/c crawl control is there, small business card sized storage space to left of steering wheel, and a few other small things-the biggest thing I’ll miss is the bed light (on the 3rd brake light- for some reason Toyota didn’t include it in Access Cab models) It’s interesting to see where Toyota gets cheap or cuts corners to save money.

I heard it was because of crash test ratings

Yes! Got one of the last ones ever made, funny going from my first year of the 3rd generation, the 2016 to one of the last ever produced of the 3rd Gens

Haha, yes indeed! One for the Tacoma history books!
Ohh, interesting, hadn’t thought of that! Didn’t know Ford called their similar color that either. Yeah, I love how it looks different depending on the weather or lighting conditions! It’s fun to see the color change on your vehicle!

Thanks BlueRidge19-I miss those blue ridge mtns-went to college in western NC!
Definitely. Trying my hardest to leave it alone.
I got too carried away on the Mods and upgrades on my 16’ so I definitely am going to chill out on that and have just narrowed it down to a few mods on this new truck- so far: Rek Gen mud flaps, wireless CarPlay, seat jackers (haven’t installed yet b/c power seats seem to fix seat positioning problems-will probably install at some point), screen protectors (shift knob display, head unit screen, and instrument cluster), dongar dash cam adapter that plugs into power rearview mirror, interior chrome delete, billet tie downs for bed/bed rails, 3rd bed rail, and a simple roll up tonneau cover. Need to get the front windows tinted (maybe the windshield too?-never done that before, but I’m too tall for an eyebrow tint on a Tacoma). Anyone know of a great tint shop in ABQ?

Better tires once I need new ones for sure- I loved the Wildpeaks and it seems they have a cheaper option that’s better for more city driving-I don’t make it off road much. Bed lights I have ready to install, just need the damn switch Toyota doesn’t include with the Access Cabs. Stock is good. Stock is very good. (My new mantra;)
I have a Tonneau Cover from Amazoodle- the first Xcover roll up tonneau they sent me seems too short-can’t get it to lock closed so they’re sending me a replacement. Anyone have this same problem or own this roll up tonneau?

Can anyone help with rear seat delete design ideas for the access cab? I already removed the jump seats/rear panels but am unsure if I should go with plywood or marine grade plastic material where the rear panels used to be. The road noise is much more noticeable with the panels removed.

Rare truck indeed, it took me 6 months to find my 22

I have a custom build coming for the rear seat area. My rear seats are coming out next week and I was going to wrap a piece of 1/4 ply in black carpet as I’m only going to have about 8-10” exposed above the rear box.

Have you done anything yet for the rear?

I almost bought a silver one back in 19 just like this but I think was a sport ( can’t remember) in a manual . My wife put the kabosh on it and I ended up getting a short bed , 4 door auto. She hates manuals . I am the complete opposite. My other Tacomas were all manual

You mean she can't drive a manual.
There are those who can and those who can't.
Sold my manual Jeep Patriot to a gal who was all over that thing.

Those who can generally prefer them. The youngsters of today have no clue about them.
Tried to teach my son how to drive with it but he couldn't quite get it.

I drove 'em forever, and my last vehicle was a manual, but as you get older the knees tend to not
work as well so I bought a 21 access cab. Once in a blue moon I reactively make a move for the clutch,
    as old habits die hard.

I saw this picture and it is a big part of how I wound up with a LR '22, hah. Had to go DC to get the 6MT, which wound up being its undoing unfortunately. And I'll just say it, I think the 3G AC looks better than 2G..

@MonkeyChief - no, I haven’t gotten around to building out a rear seat delete yet- I still need to! Would love to see your build when you’re done! Post pics here if you can- great photo of your truck- love the background, that truck looks sick. I like those wheels. I’m sticking with stock for now but love that look. I ended up buying a ‘stealthbox’ subwoofer that was installed where rear console was and had them rip out plastic rear panels when they did that and have been running the truck without all the rear jump seat junk and plastic panels. It’s a bit noisier than stock but gives me much more room for hauling stuff and I’ve had ppl ride in back for hours long trips with makeshift seat and they haven’t complained.
