I kinda thought so, just from seeing them around. They look like nice trucks.

WELL, I guess it depends on how you define "bailout". Ford didn't take "bailout" money when Chrysler & GM did, BUT they "asked Congress for a “credit line” of up to $9 billion in case the economy worsened."

Additionally "Ford did receive $5.9 billion in government loans in 2009 to retool its manufacturing plants to produce more fuel-efficient cars, and the company lobbied for and benefited from the cash-for-clunkers program — contrary to the ad’s testimonial that Ford is “standing on their own.”

Ford taking $9 billion & then $5.9 billion in government money seems like a bailout of sorts to me, even if it wasn't from the same program used to float GM & Chrysler out of going bankrupt. But I'll concede the point that the "loans" weren't termed a 'bailout', just credit & loans...of taxpayer dollars. Potato, Potahto.

No, but they did take a 6 billion dollar loan which they "struggled" to pay back until last year I think. And now they have another loan of almost 10 billion in the works.

Definitely the most uncomfortable vehicle I have ever driven. My back hurt for weeks. Which is a shame, because I really liked the darn thing.

Hit send too soon. That's what happens when I post from my phone.
This is an early 1960s Datsun pick up truck. Might be better made than the current ones.

Cool, it still has a crank snout starter option if the battery won't turn the engine over. My 70's FJ40's still had that.

There was a nice FJ40 soft top there too. Close to 800 cars, trucks, and motorcycles.

I used to have a Nissan flatbed. Probably because I couldn't afford anything else. Don't remember where I bought it or why.
    But it was a blast!

I'd buy a naturally aspirated Frontier V-6 over a Turbo-4 Tacoma. With absolutely no reservation. The main problem with Nissan is the CVT--but that doesn't come into play with the Frontier which is a more traditional auto.

I feel similarly about the Titan over the new Tundra.

And I generally dislike Nissan as a brand overall.

The turbo thing in general is one thing but it's not sorted out on the current powerplant, which is quite another.

There's a certain type of Toyota buyer that buys them because they believe they will go hundreds of thousands of miles with proper maintenance. I am one of them. I wasn't terribly educated on the 3.5 in my 3rd gen--I only realized after the fact that it had dual fuel injection systems (port/direct) and a persnickety transmission. But, still, all in all, it was relatively traditional. Will it be as reliable as a 2nd gen? I highly doubt it. That was peak-Toyota era. 4.0. Port injection only (i think?). Simple transmission. Those Tacomas will be around with the roaches after WW3. But the Turbo 4 is a different animal. There are no free lunches. And one only has to look at pictures under the hood of a 2024 to understand: this is not your father's Tacoma. Toyota has built its reputation on under stressed, naturally aspirated engines.

Im in the market for a new truck . Ive looked at the new Tacomas , I do not care for them one bit , the 4 cyl turbo doesnt help at all. I was interested in the Frontiers mostly because it still has a 6 cyl . Overall , a very nice truck , nice drive and I felt I could get a very good price from the dealer . With the recent troubling news about Nissan, ive marked them off my list. I can definitely see people giving them a good look though .

Can definitely see that. I bought my Tacoma as my first Toyota after seeing my wife's 96 buyback due to the frame rot. I figured it will last or they will make it right, either way that's a positive. So far I've had both..mine needed a reframe but they took care of me all around.

I know little firsthand about the 3G though I rented a 22 earlier this year for about a week while my 2G was in the shop. No real complaints, though my needs are minimal though.

Definitely agree, in any vehicle a turbo is going to add complexity

I read that the Titan is being discontinued, but I don't recall when.

A friend was looking to replace his Tundra work truck and looked at both the Titan and Tundra. He said that the Titan was very expensive for what it was. He ended up buying a used Tundra and is very happy with it. He also has a 2015 Tacoma Limited which is also a company truck. He bought that to replace a 2011 Tacoma that one of his workers totaled. I told him that the Tacoma Limited was too nice a truck to use for work, but he said he'd be driving it most of the time.

That did make me want to buy a Limited at some point, but that probably won't happen.

My son had an Access Cab 2000 that Toyota bought back due to frame rot. He took the money and bought an 2011, which ended up getting a frame replacement. He totaled that and now has a 2011 Pre Runner. He still owns it, but his recent promotion comes with a company car as part of his compensation package. My grandson will get the Pre Runner next year when he gets his license.

The “change the oil and it will last forever” mostly applied to Japanese made Toyota SUVs and some Lexus sedans from over 2 decades ago but for some reason Toyota has enjoyed the reputation of being reliable even though in the last 10 to 15 years they have done their damnedest to subvert expectations.
