    Today is my Special Day.

I left Los Angeles, CA on this date in 1986.

    My effective retirement date: 1APR2011.

Although I retired under High Year of Tenure, it came very sudden and soon I had to relinquish my responsibilities.

It's been 13 years and 9 jobs later...I find myself accomplished doing the same type of Logistics in supporting the USAF C17 Flying Wing on Dover AFB.

I've owned my TRD Sport for nearly 3 years and I still look back at her when I walk away. lol

Got out under the Clinton RIF plan than got me an annuity for twice my time in service, so that 3 days got me an extra payment.
I was an E5 when I signed up for the early release program, then got a line number for E6 and had to decline the promotion since E6's weren't eligible.
47271C which became 2T371, Special Purpose Vehicle Mechanic, Material Handling Equipment
When I was at Basic in January of 1985, San Antonio had the highest ever recorded snowfall, 16 inches. Talk about total chaos...
    Chanute AFB for tech school
    RAF Mildenhall 1985-89
    Vandenberg AFB 1989-1992
Diego Garcia August 1990-April 1991 for Desert Shield/Desert Storm
    RAF Alconbury 1992-95

I worked on virtually every vehicle in the AF inventory from staff cars to cargo loaders to fire trucks to refuelers to bulldozers to missile transporters. Cross-trained in aerial port ops and fleet management (the joys of being in Transportation). When we were in Diego Garcia, we usually ran 100% in-commission in vehicle maintenance, so I ran a cargo loader during the initial deployment, then once the bombing started, ran a forklift in the bomb dump a lot of days (B52s haul a LOT of bombs on each mission).

    Good morning Staff Sergeant!

You joined the USAF the year I graduated HS.

You've also been assigned to a base I PSC'd to but not until 1990. (RAF Mildenhall)

RAF Alconbury was the support base at my first overseas assignment to RAF Wethersfield/1989...so we had to drive up there for daily distro/pick-ups.

At RAF Wethersfield, we had Triple R vehicles which were RED HORSE...runways aren't needing that kind of repair so USAF deactivated the base--how I got to Mildenhall.

I wasn't affected by the RIF (Reduction In Force) so I'm sorry you had to go through that.

Thanks for your service and also putting memories back in my cabeza. lol

Good times at Port Hueneme. I was an instructor there for 4 years on the unique side of the mission.

Only thing I'm looking foward to about being at Port Hueneme is looking for a truck to ship back to Hawaii. I'll save money even with the shipping costs

Indeed, plan everything accordingly so the vehicle makes it to the dock in time. Btw, I noticed you used to be stationed at DAFB I was too. Good times :fistbump:
