Hello all, I have old style cast iron manifold with a crack in it. Very annoying so I purchase new improved type. I’m holding up on heatshield(105.00 + shipping) and gonna try to modify old original shield. Might not look perfect but who sees it. has anyone done this ? Any advice is welcome. Cheers.

I think I saw somewhere in my searches where someone had done it. When I did my swap I tried a dry fit with the old shield to the new pipe style header. It didn’t follow the shape very well and looked like it would take a good bit of modification to make it attach. The existing holes in the old shield also showed a good bit of stress cracks around the bolt holes. My final concern was if I did Jerry rig it successfully but it broke loose later down the road, then what kind of damage could it do. Rather than risk it I just got the right shield. It looks better and goes together easy. No cracks either.

What was the improved header you got? I also have a crack or small leak in my header that’s starting to drive me nuts

They probably went with the later tube style manifold.

You’re right. Not a pretty piece but will probably work fine. 231.0 for manifold which is not bad but they priced heat shield at 105.00. Too much. I think I can modify orig heat shield to work.

Pretty sure I it was post 2000 but I am not certain. I have LCE headers with their full exhaust on my 2000. Cast iron manifold cracked so just went for it lol. Love it. But I think you can get a decent aftermarket manifold in the newer style for a few hundred bucks. I would probably try to find a nice used one though if I went that route though.

If it was $230 for an OE manifold from a dealer, fair.

Did you buy an aftermarket one or find a good used one? Just curious.

I searched junkyards for a while and came up short. So I bit the bullet and purchased OEM. Ordered online and picked up at dealer. Lots cheape, at least here. And I have not yet regretted buying OEM on anything so far but wasted some money on aftermarket more than I care to admit.

Nice. I wasn't aware that new factory ones were reasonable in cost.

Took original cast iron exhaust manifold off and it was completely broken in two pieces! New manifold installed , original heat shield modified and fits fine. What a difference! Engine purrs like new with 374k miles .
