Stock as can be. 2nd owner, mild rust from Illinois owner. Frame is solid and plan on just getting a toolbox for the bed, black steel wheels and some 31x10.5R15
Getting a good felt shaking in the cab starting right at 55mph. Goes away slightly from 60mph and faster. It does not matter if I'm free wheeling, accelerating or braking. Again, I can feel it more in my seat, more so in the steering wheel. The truck did sit from April-October. But I did make a chance to move it around once a month or so.
I've yet to get the wheels balanced yet. So I'm doing that this upcoming week. However I crawled underneath and felt up the driveshaft and found this bit of slop from the carrier.

GOOD OR BAD?!?!? People have been telling me mixed opinions!

    None yet
I replaced mine recently. It's not that hard, and they do get sloppy over time! I think they're are some good tutorials on YouTube but it's actually pretty straightforward to do. Just make sure to mark the drive shaft so that you bolt it back together the way it was before.

Is rubber tore up? It should move a little but that seems excessive

What does the rubber bushing part of carrier bearing look like?

even if new, there will be some play
If rubber is cracked then RR CB

The rubber itself is still uniform and all in 1 piece. However, as noted in the video, it is not completely even around the entire bearing. There IS more room on the top side as opposed to the bottom.

    Agree with wilcam
Yours ‘seems’ excessive but that internet guess

Understood the gaps different from top to bottom….but to be expected from 20yr old part

    of rubber cracked, RR

Yeah, that's shot. It shouldn't sag. It's soft rubber and you can push a good one around a bit with pressure, but not like that.

When the driveshaft is off, grease the U joints and make sure they can move (again) or they'll destroy the new carrier bearing.

An easy way to tell if they're loose is to push up and if it clunks down its bad. Amazon sells a spicer until which is OEM, literally says Toyota on the rubber for $100. I would get a big 3 jaw puller to get the flange off.

I may as well just get a new one I suppose.
So it doesn't really mean a noise when I play with it. However I DO get a clunk/thunk when stopping at a light. And then another small thunk/clunk when I let off the brake to go again. The truck has always had this. Never got any better or any worse.
Wonder if the shake at 55mph and this small clunk are tied together

clunk/thunk when coming to a complete stop is axle wrap. Same when accelerating from a complete stop & getting the clunk due to the rear axle releasing the twisted bind when coming to the stop. New leaf springs eliminate this. Do you have an automatic?
