Need some advice from ppl who have actually worked with a JBL taco. Been on here and searching around for awhile. I have a ‘12 with the factory JBL system. Happy enuf for now with the HU. Only looking to replace speakers. Know I need 2-ohm speakers.

So, mid/tweeter up in the doors, woofer lower fronts, mid-range in back doors (and sub out back, of course)??

Have seen ppl replace both sets of door speakers with the same woofers. Am I better sticking with frt woofers and rear mids?

This is what I’ve narrowed it to so far:

    Woofers:
    https://www.woofersetc.com/focal-pc165-x2-2-ohm-6-5-80-watts-rms-2-way-coaxial-speakers.html

I know I don’t need 2-ways there, but can’t find any 2ohm focal component spkrs by themselves. Unless I can just wire those in and not use the tweeters and crossovers that come with the pkg, since the jbl amp already handles those roles? Crutchfield doesn’t have much for jbl speaker replacements anymore.

    Mids:

    TIA for sharing your experience.

    The front doors are 6x9’s
    Rear doors are 6.5’s

if you’re keeping the factory amp, absolutely do not waste your money on Focal speakers. Don’t waste your money on any “upgraded” speakers because you won’t get any better performance out of them. The jbl amp is the weak link so either plan to gut the system and replace everything, or leave it alone. If a speaker has blown, replace it with the cheapest option you can get.

Thanks. I appreciate that. May go with the PowerBass speakers thru Crutchfield. Only option they have for a jbl Tacoma anymore. Decent price. How much is that amp pushing out? Think the stock HU is 55w/channel?

Stock head unit maxes at about 12w to the front channels, and like 5w to the rears (no, I’m not joking)

jbl might be sending 30-45w to the front and 10 to the rears.
