Truck Camping Photo Thread

Yeah!!! I finally convinced my husband to go this weekend! I showed him your pictures and found AirB&B campsite (30min out). The good spot including the places only for 4x4 are all booked.

Now we are discussing about which truck to take. His wants to drive his Tundra, but I want my Taco for pics.

 

Not sure I added this a few months ago. 9k trip north to Alaska, Yukon, and Northwest Territories.

This picture is our campsite on the shore of the Arctic Ocean in Tuktoyuktuk, Northwest Territories, Canada.

At the time, the Tacoma had 127k. The only thing I had replaced was the shocks / struts (at 75k). When we returned home, our front rotors were shot... after 130k miles.

It needs new shocks and struts again, but I am extremely pleased with this vehicle.

A little fall camping and football

 

Impressive. That's a handful towing that Airstream. That's what it's all about with these trucks IMO. My kind of exploring and recreating. Would love to do Tuk one day.

 

Nice setup. I have the Jackery 1000 Pro as well and am impressed with it, I use it to power my Dometic.
Not sure I'd care about watching TV but just for grins, how long will that Jackery run it? I can run my Dometic
via the 12v connection for days and it keeps foods as cold as my fridge at home.

 

I really dig that rear wrap and makes me think about ways to do similar without copying you haha

 

I have the 1000 pro v2. Just TV without star link probably like 22 hours or so. I ran that and starlink all day from like 9 am to 10pm and still had like 10%. Thats the first time ive run a TV. It was just because i didnt want to miss the football game lol. But wanted to camp as well.

 

Good to know. I'm happy for football season, just bought a new 55" LG OLED TV that rocks, but I'd rather
watch the grass grow given the opportunity. I figure I can always watch the 7 minute recap and skip the lousy
do-nothing plays and skip the stupid commercials. Actually find myself doing that a lot these days.

Found something that the bed outlet can actually do and that is cook rice.

 

Awesome. How did the taco do pulling the Airstream? How heavy is it?

 

Central NC in the late summer. Tacoma pulls the teardrop like it is nothing.

Very impressive pull and a good amount of dirt enroute to and in AK.

Bet that trip will never be forgotten.

Just returned to Ohio from a trip out to Texas to visit some friends. I took a circuitous route via Carlsbad Caverns NP, Guadalupe Mountains NP and Big Bend NP. There's nothing quite like waking up in the desert.

First night in Mark Twain NF Missouri. Unfortunately the only fire I had this trip.



SE New Mexico. Not ideal but mostly very quiet and there was a toilet.



I did Carlsbad Caverns, then some hiking and then found a lovely site on BLM land that I ended up staying at for two nights.



Climbed the highest peak in Texas, Guadalupe Peak in Guadalupe Mountains NP



Made it to Big Bend and was delighted with my campsite that required travelling an hour down a series of dirt roads, with nobody else for miles. Hiked a few trails and climbed up to Emory Peak, then went to a different site. Saw amazing sunrises and sunsets and more stars that I thought possible, hiked a bunch of great trails and had a blast exploring unpaved roads. I wished I had another week to hang around there.

Stopped by Terlingua on the way out, pretty wild place.



Last night before getting to my friends in Eastern TX was in the middle of nowhere at the end of a long rest stop, surrounded by grazing land overlooking a valley. Semi-discreet, nobody bothered me and it was a beautiful backdrop.


I only took one night to get back, and stayed at a campground in a state park in Tennessee. I would prefer to avoid campgrounds but there isn't always a ton of public land on the route. The last few hours of that night and most of the next day were driving through torrential down pour. I arrived and left in the dark and it wasn't picturesque so no pictures of that.

Wow - what a trip! I've been up to Mt Guadalupe - that is quite the little stair-master hike. I remember coming around a bend, thinking 'how much further', and hitting this section. I look up and there is another hiker up there, so just dig in and keep climbing.




The view from the top is amazing. 360-degree view and no signs of civilization that I could see.

 

I couldn't make that hike but I'd love to get up there with my Nikon camera and Tokina 11-16 and shoot the milky way.
Those who haven't experienced true Dark-Sky areas have no idea how brilliant the night sky is, with the naked eye stars are forever.
You can track satellites ( ie: ISS ) from horizon to horizon - truly a sight to behold.

I've posted these before elsewhere - and trust me these images copy/pasted are degraded by 25% in clarity. I 'painted' the rock formations
with a head-lamp... the big 'blob' is Jupiter, and in the second you see a plane enter the frame. This was with an older camera - my newer
one is even better.
