I was a CTM boot there in '85 and then returned back in '96 as staff. Seems like a lifetime ago.

We installed a bunch of comms at the secure site in Yoko over a 3 month period, I spent quite a few late nights out in the honch. It was nice when the fleet was out, we had the place mostly to ourselves.

My best to all of you who are serving your Country Honorably. (As a Civilian I once had the privilege of flying out to the Lincoln on a COD for the experience of an arresting wire landing on deck. The next morning got to fly out on a catapult launch. I still have my "Tail Hook" certificate from that experience!)

Yeah, brings back memories. Heading back over to Sasebo in March 2024 for 3 months. Can’t wait. Bringing my son and his family along this time.

Forgot about this thread. My dumb ass is still in the reserves, did another MOB 2012-2013. Put in a package and an O now (18XX community). About 25 good years, when I hit my high three I'll probably punch out.

Yep. There was a window of time I'd drill for free (points for retirement pay) with the VTU if it was the work I was doing at that particular time with that particular reserve unit. But now, in about two years I'll hit that time that locks in my current rank to my retirement pay grade and I don't care to stick around to try and rank up any further. I wouldn't say its for any one particular reason, its a combination of reasons that has me going from staying in past 25+ yrs because I liked what I was doing, who I was doing it with to now holding my head down and biding my time.

I kept in touch with guys I was active duty with (before going reserves) and met some guys that were AD through other reserve friends that had recently done ADOS or MOB orders and there seems to be a zeitgeist shift, its not just certain ranks, rates or regions but this overarching feeling by many.

Get the most out of that shore duty!
