    Hello

Want to buy an OBDII reader / scnanner (Scan gauge or a wireless reader) for muy 98 Taco but have a question.
On the Ultragauge web site it states that the following "OBDII Certified" must be printed on the vehicle's emission decal in order to work. The decal on mine does not state that, see attached pic. Truck was manufactured 10/97 and there is an port under the dash just over the driver's right knee.
Before spending money I would like to make sure it will work.

    Thanks

Thank you. Sorry forgto to introduce my self.

Here is my ride. 1998, (build 10/97), SR5, 2wd,5 lug with a "power full" 2.4L motor with column shift A/T. Was used by a contractor and looks as such. Paint is all scratched up and had white overspray which I clayed off and gave it some shine. Looks good from 30 feet away lol.

So far I did a complete brake job including a new master cilinder and also changed the motor oil, new plugs, new air filter, flushed coolant. Blacked out. the front chrome grill.

Has 135k on it. Looks like the auto tranny oil was only kept up to level. Should I change the auto trany oil and filter or will this open a can of worms in the future?

Truck was lifted by a previous owner with a spring spacer up front and add a leaf in the rear. Want to better the ride. Looking into spindles. It runs on worn 225/75-16's, looking to re gear axle as live in a mountain area.

Still lot's to do on it.

    thanks

ScanGauge II Ultra Compact 3-in-1 Automotive Computer with Customizable Real-Time Fuel Economy Digital Gauges
ScanGaugeII can help you monitor your vehicle’s most vital systems and provide the kind of real-time information you’ve been missing. Features include more than 15 built-in digital gauges, 5 sets of trip data and an easy-to-use Scan Tool that shows both set and pending trouble codes - all in an ultra compact design that installs in minutes. Works with 1996 and newer OBDII cars, trucks and hybrids.

The ScanGauge is designed to plug directly into the OBDII diagnostics connector under the dash of 1996 and new cars and light trucks. Some vehicles built prior to 1996 may also be compatible with ScanGauge products.

You have a Federal emission sticker which is probably why it doesn’t say OBD2 certified.

OBD2 became mandatory on any 1996 and newer passenger vehicles and trucks sold in the US.

I just bought a Scanguage3 mostly for Transmission Temperature which isn't part of the basic OBD2 standard. On my 2004 Camry, the only Xgauge (what they call the mfg specific live data readings that are not part of the OBD2 standard) it has was one Transmission temp, probably the pan temperature. All of the other readings you could set up to monitor like catalyst temps are available on any good ODB2 scan tool that has live data readings like my old Actron has. Unlike the regular scan tools which show all the live data readings that it has PIDs for at once and you scroll thru them, ScanGauge will only show you what you have set up to display on the 3 screens available. To see more data you would select a gauge and scroll thru the available readings as if you were going to set or change an item to monitor. A good OBD2 scan tool with live data and recording might be better for general diagnosis and repair of different vehicles but no mfg specific readings like transmission temperature, torque converter lockup, etc. Older vehicles don't have a lot of these readings that will show up on a ScanGauge but if you want to monitor Cat temps, coolant temps, trip statistics, ect then the Scangauge3 is the way to go. It is larger than the Scangauge 2 but way more easy to set up with WIFI instead having to enter 4 lines of code for each mfg specific 'Xgauge' you want to monitor. Newer vehicles have a lot more Xgauge items that you can monitor. My 2023 has about 12 which my regular scan tool cannot see.

Rebuilding seats with leather from furniture and extra padding. Might put leather on the dash and other interior parts.
It will work. If you have doubts, try autozone and borrow theirs.
