Kurt, so sorry for the loss of a family member.

Good morning. Took the day off yesterday, slept in till 8am and lounged around the house all day. I feel energized and ready to go today. Smoking a rack of St. Louis ribs today.

Hello folks, prostate cancer radiation week 5 of 8 complete today; looking forward to finishing up this chapter of my life. Some good news came mid-week; my Oncologist told me the comprehensive radiation treatments for both my abdominal lymph nodes and my prostate has completed and as of yesterday through the end of treatment, the sole focus of the radiation will be directed to my prostate; my treatment time has been cut in half and the number of exposures has dropped from 118 to 61 per day. :)

    Afternoon all:

Not that I don't have enough long johns for hunting, but was just looking at Filson 400G Marino wool tops, only $195!
But there is free shipping and a 10% off coupon, I would need to get awful cold to even consider paying that much for a thermal top!

:annoyed:, the pond pipe is pushed over, looks like some other critter set off the trip wire, now I need to figure out how to make something that makes a big boom so that I can make more of them.
Checked the trail cam this morning and a decent buck finally showed up on it, might need to start hunting the tree stand at the house more.

A buddy called me to see how we were doing hunting and had a good story. He was driving a dirt road behind a reservoir where we hunt when two doe crossed in front of him, he stopped to watch them and here comes a buck right out to his Jeep, then the buck started attacking the jeep and partially ripped the fender flare off of it, he said the Jeep was rocking as the buck was doing its thing.
Then further down the road he stopped to take a leak, he hears leaves rustling and here comes a little bear, he was on his way to go bear hunting but said that bear was so small that he would never have considered shooting it.

Thanks, I appreciate it. Funny thing, my Oncologist has basically said, since the tumors in my lymph nodes were so small the nodes themselves hadn't grown beyond a normal size, and given my prostate is "of a normal" size as well, they cannot tell from the daily CT Scan as to whether it is working or not. Couple this with the fact my PSA had dropped from 97 in January to <0.1 in September, meaning I started my radiation therapy at a point where my cancer was "undetectable" (shy of a complete round of PET, bone, and high-contrast CT scans), it will be unlikely we'll know how effective the radiation has been.

With the above said, I asked my Oncologist two weeks ago if, given I was already undetectable when I started radiation, once the treatments are over, should I stop taking the Erleada (testosterone receptor blocker), or should I stay on it for the initially recommended two years. His response was very instructive, "Prostate cancer grows really slowly, and when you do things to kill it off, it dies really slowly as well. The idea is to shrink the cancer clusters to tiny, virtually undetectable sizes, radiate the hell out of them, and then keep starving them for two or so years, this due to the fact they can go essentially dormant months or years before they actually die; if you go off the receptor blocker too soon, once they start seeing food again, they can revive and start growing again."

Long story short, I started the Erleada at the end of March, and will stay on it until March of 2026 (assuming my PSA stays at or near zero), then we'll reevaluate when to go off the hormone.

:fingerscrossed: for you Dale, sounds like a PITB, but if going through the treatment eliminates the cancer it will be well worth it.

PITB is an understatement. One doesn't "feel" the radiation per-se, however, most folks typically experience a fairly significant amount of nausea, and in my case I've been kind of sick to my stomach for over three weeks now. My treatments end on 21-Nov, exactly a week before Turkeyday, so hopefully I'll have recovered enough to enjoy myself for the feast.

Sounds like you are on the right path. Just keep following doctors orders Dale. Positive Ithoughts sent your way.
A very good friend of mine was diagnosed with advanced prostate cancer 3 years ago, same time within days I was diagnosed with prostate cancer. He went through similar treatment to you and just recently he was told they see no evidence of recurrence. My prostate cancer was very low grade and was simply treated with brachytherapy (radioactive seed implantation). All my psa’s for 2 years have been below 0.1. My doctor considers me “cured. To celebrate our good fortune my friend and I are planning to rent a limo and go to some wineries wine tasting, out to dinner and then a concert. Just he and I, the spouses are doing their one thing.

To all the old farts reading this get your PSA checked every year without fail. Every f ing year. Stage 1 treated is 99.9% survival. Stage 2 is as high as 97% survival rate. It’s a simple painless blood test that can save your life.

Wurd! I missed one year and saw a HUGE spike.

With some of the recent advancements in treatment, even Stage 4a (like mine) can have a high percentage of survival.

I have a rather aggressive (fast growing rather than slow) prostate cancer which according to PSA and testosterone studies is controlled. I have been treated for twelve years with androgen suppression. I have never seen an oncologist. The current urologist and I have parted ways for several reasons and the new urologist won't make an appointment until I consult with an oncologist. So, changes may be on the way. I don't know. But I do know that what you have discussed (treatments and diagnostics) are things that have never been mentioned to me. Interesting days ahead. Thanks for your post.
