I’m looking for suggestions on a replacement head unit with CarPlay. Since I’m getting new I’d probably want wireless capability but not required.

My current setup is aftermarket speakers front and rear. I have components in front and an under seat bass/amp unit. I have a Kenwood excelon 9xxx (I forget the exact model) from 2016 or 17. It sounds great but is getting really flaky, random blank screens, CarPlay stops working randomly, and overall it seems like it’s starting to go.

I am planning to install it myself and I’ve been considering one of the android units but do t know how they are for sound quality and reliability. I’ve checked crutchfield and can get a lower end unit with the wiring included for about $400.

So what would you recommend for a budget but good replacement?

This may be abit off topic, but still related to replacing the head unit. Immediately after purchasing my new to me 08' we wanted to replace an unfamiliar crap china unit right away. The new replacement bezel placed the viewing angle to wrong. Unless your eyeballs are at the roof level visibility is washed out with glare (using anti glare cover too). With bright sun at your back, forget it.

I looked into it and the o.e. viewing eye level is set higher than any vehicle I've ever owned except for an old 914. I guess my question that may help the op, others and myself is; Has anyone found an aftermarket 2 din faceplate that addresses this? Maybe a pivoting 10" or the likes is the only way to change the angle.?

As an example you can see how the first and second picture have different installed angles. The third is just one I applied carbon fibber sticky to, just... because.

Anything software-based, you get what you pay for. Same as laptops. A chrome book is cheap but won't game. A gaming laptop is expensive, but has more power than most people need.

Most of the android units are at least 2-5 versions of android behind the latest version, and many don't offer much support.

I'd suggest sticking with name brand units

Just a guess but can you update the firmware? My pioneer unit was starting to do the same but that all went away once I updated. Hope this helps. :fingerscrossed:
