Aftermarket LCU benefits over stock?

    3" OME lift, SPC UCAs, URD Crankshaft pulley (the red gives more HP)
    Hello all,

    I'm looking to replace both of my lower control arms on my 99 Taco. One was damaged in a wreck.

    The stock LCUs have worked for me just fine for the past few years with my lift. I have a 3" OME lift (883 springs and nitroshocks, with SPC UCAs).

    However, since I am replacing them, I just wanted to ask if there would be any benefit to going with any of the aftermarket brands? Or should I just get stock ones again?

    2.5" lift, JBA UCA, OME rear leafs, 33s...
    I think the only benefit is gussets and maybe the angle. I'm pretty sure most people in the 2-3" lift range uses stock lowers with aftermarket uppers. I also think the ball joint mount is the same between them, so you could run uniballs on either if that matters to you. This is also coming from someone with a 2.5" lift on stock lower control arms/ball joints.

    They do sell some that move the wheel 3/4" forward which would let you clear bigger tires.

    Which brands are you referencing here? Is it OEM replacements like Moog or 555? Or are you thinking Total Chaos or Solo Motorsports?

    Are you lifted or going to add a lift?

    I would go with Toyota if staying stock. For after market, I don't know as I'm not sure what is considered good or not for aftermarket. I am open for suggestions.

    I have a 3" lift, details in my original post.

    I plan to stay with my 33" tires for a while, but it's good to know this is an option to move to bigger tires.

    I did not know the stock ball joints were an issue. I just replaced my lower ball joints about 15k miles ago that had 150k miles on them.
