2nd gen with 200k looking for options

    I have a 2013 TRD Sport long bed, 2 wheel drive.

    This truck has the original suspension components and its bone stock in most ways. I’m getting a new vehicle through work and my daughter will be surprised with this truck after I fix it up for Christmas.

    We were given a 2024 Tacoma off road with 8 miles on it as a loaner this weekend and I can’t get over how smooth that thing rides. So it made me realize the 196k miles on my truck over time have obviously worn out components.

    I have seen switching in new-ish 3rd gen stock suspension on to 2nd gen trucks. Seems like a reasonable cost for most from $200-350 on marketplace. Is there anything out there that gives a smooth and comfortable on road feel? It won’t be off roaded. It just needs a comfortable ride.

    Are there other aftermarket brands that are a more smooth riding and comfortable ride for the street?

    thanks in advance y’all. I came from owning all GM vehicles until I bout the taco to keep stock as a daily and I never looked into fixing suspension until I rode in the brand new 24

    With that many miles and everything being original, i would budget for shocks, upper and lower control arms, inner and outer tie rods, sway bar links and bushings for the front. Shocks for the rear. Especially if you want the truck to also be safe for your daughter. The lower balljoint supports most of the weight of the vehicle. You dont want that to give out. 200k means its time for a suspension overhaul.

    3rd gen shocks will give about a 1" front lift but ride a little stiffer bc the spring rate is higher.

    Don’t forget about all the mounts, they will all be worn

    Body mounts, engine mounts, transmission, front diff and steering rack bushings too

    Found some 2024 sport suspension on marketplace. Anyone with knowledge know if these coil overs would work on a 13?
    Seems like a solid deal if they would.

    Highly doubt it.

    They changed the suspension design significantly for the 4th gens. For example, the bumpstop is now built into the top of those shocks and not separate like 2nd and 3rd gens. That alone could be enough to make it so those wont even fit. Then you've got shock length and coil rate to worry about, so even if they did manage to fit they are likely far too stiff because the 4th gens are significantly heavier than the 2nd gens.

    Follow up for folks here (I know you’re all on pins and needles)

    I did find some suspension that would work in our case. Also purchased some 18” GX460 FSport wheels and slapped some tires on. I ordered full front and rear brake kits. Are there OEM suggestions for control arms, ball joints and other stock-like components or a good aftermarket that doesn’t brake the bank?

    with wheels, tires, suspension, stereo and wrap I’m basically spending half the value of the truck on this thing and don’t want to miss out on something important

    A TRD OR built into a Baja/PRO hybrid
    I found Beck Arnley to be a good option for oem replacement. Sway bar endlinks, bushings, and UCA's appeared equal to OEM. The bushings had OEM part numbers

    Some parts can be had thru RockAuto, the UCA's thru suspension.com

    For Lower control Arms, best to stick with OEM thru a reputable wholesale dealership website... But you could try Beck Arnley as well
