I recently purchased 4 new tires (Cooper Discoverer All-Terrain 245/75R16 111T). On my receipt it states the techs put in 26 psi. Inside of my drivers side door it says 29 psi is ideal. I checked the tires psi as soon as I got home, analog gauge, and it registered 40 psi on my drivers side front and rear tires. And on the tire is states 44 max psi.

I dont understand the disparity between the receipt, Toyota and the tire manufacture. I plan to go with 42psi all around. Just curious on other opinions / perspectives.

    Thanks...

Always measure cold. That is, psi before going on a drive. Do not measure after the tires have warmed up.

If you are on stock size tires, follow the door placard. Techs almost always over inflate. 40 is way too dang high. You'll prematurely wear the tires and your stopping distances will suffer the more you over inflate.

If you are not running stock size tires, use this.

Your stock tire size was P245/75R16 109 @ 29 psi cold.

The adjusted pressure for your new 245/75R16 111 tires is 31 psi cold. Inflate them to that and you’ll be good.

42 is too high, you would only want to run them there if you had LT tires. Your tires are plain old euro-metric SLs.

44 psi max just means that’s the max pressure to provide speed or load capacity. It doesn’t mean the tire will pop at 45 psi. Although there is no good reason to run them with that much air, that is way overinflated for the load of truck they’re carrying.

If you want to treat it like it’s a stock truck, fill them to 31 and call it done.

IMO its best toward the high end of the tires actual psi max. rating. On street tires anyway. Many if not most tires range upwards of 51 psi, far different than 29psi. Yes it may reduce max braking somewhat. The days of bias plys are long gone. I've never had max rated range pressures wear inside tread on modern day radials. my last set of 51psi max tires, were set @45psi (room for up to 4+ psi expansion on 110* days) wore perfect and rode like silk. Tire temperatures are also lower on a hot tires when set @ max tire specific pressures over underinflated.
