I bought the Mystery Ranch Beartooth 80 for my Idaho backpack hunt. I loved the volume and comfort and the ability to switch to smaller Mystery Ranch bags to use on the same frame for whitetail or quick 2 day hunts. Might be a little heavier than others but I love it. Broke a waist buckle in my tailgate a week before leaving and Mystery Ranch repair shop sent one out overnight.

Weight isn’t always a bad thing. I know some people in the forums and gear industry nerd out on weight, but the mystery ranches use a denier that DO NOT easily tear. Hence where the additional weight comes from comparable packs.

When talking a lb or 2 of weight, the packs suspension and how it distributes the load is more important then the actual weight number.

If you’re training that’s a good place to start.

I have a 5 day planned, next week. About 11k in altitude, about a 6k vert climb and snow conditions. Not quite mountaineering, I don’t see a reason to need crampons but I’ll probably bring an ice axe just in case.

That pack weight for that sleeping system in that condition, with about 3k calories/day is about a 70ish lb pack. Not including my bows weight. About 12 miles in wilderness.

I’ve done this spot a few times and packed out mule deer in one trip.…. I’m in shape and it sucks hard. The epitome of “the suck.”

Sounds like a grueling hunt but very satisfying. Once you get altitude, it's hard to give it up. I'm not expert at it but love the adventure.

Another year out west coming home with tag soup and a full spiritual cup

saw wolves, muleys, a bobcat, and spot and stalked a moose by accident. As always it was one hell of an adventure

It’s been a weird season with not much action. So I took what the hunting gods were offering.

Question for you guys! What tree harness are you using? I have been using a muddy elite for the last 6 years. Great harness, but I do have to be careful to not bump my bow or grunt call on the buckles when hunting in warm weather. When it's cold, I normally wear it under my layers and it's not an issue.
