Hey everyone , I was wondering if I need some inner high angle cv axel boots for my truck. I have a 2.5 inch lift in the front with a 1 inch axel drop. I have OEM boots in right now and they are torn badly. Im not sure how that happened. I’m thinking it’s because I turned really sharp in 4wd once but I’m not sure. Do you guys think I’ll need high angle boots or no? Thank you!

If they were the original boots then its basically guaranteed to rip once you lift it. Just pit some new boots on it and call it good.

They are newer OEM axels and boots. They have about 40k miles on them. I do have new OEM reboot kits but wasn’t sure if I need the high angle inner boots.

Yes lifting can cause the boot baffles to rub and basically the friction cuts them apart. Most prefer to rebuild OEM axles with new boots. There's a sticky in this section with a solution.

    https://www.tacomaworld.com/threads/boot-slide-mod-no-more-blowing-cv-boots.146070/

IIRC this is a boot slide mod that extends the boot a little further down the axle to space out the baffles so they don't rub. With longer boots this is the mod too like on 1st gen Tundra where the OE inner boot is smaller than Taco and so a longer boot is swapped on and mounted out a little further past the indent on the axle shaft where it usually is clamped.

FWIW for those that need new boots, Allpro makes a boot kit can get from Wheelers. Looks like they're having a 25% off sale right now. Also looks like a full Allpro boot kit with outers too at Summit but haven't heard much about outers tearing.

If just sliding an existing (untorn) boot can get rolled edge clamps from Bell hardware (Carlyn or Norma torro) instead of using standard sharp edge clamps from the local hardware store.

Can also get a full set of clamps in various lengths for like $20 including shipping IIRC if don't want to buy the crimper tool for the standard style that likely came with your kit.
