I am considering purschasing a 2020 Tacoma TRD pro. However, some of the trucks out there do not have the ECT button there between the park assist and blind spot buttons. Do those truck with the button missing just not have ECT capability? Or is it something that can be added? From what I have been reading 3rd gen tacomas run way better with ECT always on, sacrificing a little mpg.

The ect button really doesn’t do much ..except hold the gear longer when towing . My guess is with the new programming the button is no longer needed .

The money would probably be better spent on the OTT tune or just live with it as is.

I bet it’s still there, just re routed to a different switch. Is that a button on the side of your shifter? If so, I bet that’s it. That’s a popular relocate position I see on here.

    Circled.

Probably the meso stealth mod or whatever its called. Theres also a similar button on the other side of that shifter as well and it might be that one.

Wow, that shifter is big enough to fit a cup holder on.

Does it make sense to purchase a four year old 3rd gen TRD Pro? Pros are desirable and Tacomas hold value, for me it would come down to price and I can't see anyone selling one for what I'd want to pay same as it was when it was new. Then I think about the rare 2G Pro Acess Cab, and I wouldn't mind having one of those.

That’s probably it! Thanks! I’m betting that blank button is for the light bar or something. The seller isn’t very responsive, appreciate everyone’s input.

That’s where the ECT button is in my 2023 TRD Sport.

If that the case, it’s time to move on, find a better deal someplace else. Never know, this person might be only BS.

    This!
If you do pursue, have it inspected, I’m weary of “mods”,,, there’s lots of automotive butchers out there!

Have you confirmed that the micro-switches on the TRD Pro shift knob click when pressing them?

All 3rd gen trucks with an automatic transmission have ECT. It changes the shifting behavior to be more "sporty". It will tend to allow the RPM to go higher before up-shifting, something that us with manual transmissions change based on our mood. It likely degrades fuel economy to a slight degree, but probably pales in comparison to the effect of driver habits.
