I was rear ended and insurance is saying they are going to repair the truck because the value of the repair did not exceed the ACV. the quote is calling for frame repairs as well as a total over 23k for repairs

"insurance is saying they are going to repair the truck because the value of the repair did not exceed the ACV."

Assuming ACV means something like "fair market value", that's how auto insurance generally works. No insurance company is going to give you a brand new truck worth more than what your truck was worth when it got damaged. There's not much you can do about it. If you have questions, read your insurance policy. Policies are not identical.

Even if the repair cost more than the truck is worth, the insurance company will cut you a check for the fair market value, not the price you paid when you bought it.

It's possible that you could get insurance that paid you the original sale price, but it would be very expensive, because it would need to factor in the value depreciation of the truck. No one would likely buy it because of the extra cost and lack of understand of how insurance works.

As mentioned, it's all about the money.
If they rebuilt this, they can rebuild that... If the numbers work..

If they can save money they are going to. that said Id be a hostile customer on every phone line they have with them doing frame repairs AND the cab is smashed in. they are supposed to return to factory condition with their repair. a cab that is 90% bondo isnt factory.

    Id be skeptical as Fu*@

I imagine you'd be hard pressed to find an auto insurance policy containing the words "factory condition"

The body shop is going to order some parts and reassemble and paint them into what they think is an approximation of what it should look like.

And no matter what it looks like they will assure you that this is within tolerances of some type of parameter or internal metric that they made up.

And all the insurance company cares about is whether or not the body shop told them things were fixed, and they will ignore your calls if you are unhappy.

I had a good experience with the body shop and insurance company when I destroyed the side of my truck. I suppose it’s about expectations and a bit of luck.

Anything is repairable as long as it doesn’t exceed 70% of the vehicles value.

    Ish...
The threshold, of course, varies from state to state, and insurer to insurer.

you'd be amazed at what a little persistence will do.
And make sure the shop doesn't cut corners. I had my front bumper cover "repaired" 3 times before they did a decent job. fisheyes, flaking at the edges, and at a shop that insurance guarantees results and they have lifetime warranty.
All Im saying is make sure you are happy with the results before you take possession

If you have a good body shop, if necessary they will do supplements if they find more damage than expected when they start the tear down. You didn't say what state you're in, but in many cases once they start the repair the insurance company has to pay for it to be completed even if it's more than they expected. You also haven't told us what year it is or how many miles.

By frame repair, what exactly to they mean? Depending on where the damage it, Toyota specifications may call for a frame replacement. There are others here who know the specifics of that, so maybe someone will comment.

Depending on how much you owe, if anything, I might lobby for them to write me a check for the amount
and try to find a 2022 or 2023 for a few dollars more.

Based on where it's hit, I'm assuming he's not at fault. Which might change how the insurance company thinks, if only a little bit.

I see steelies, is this an S or SR truck. I've heard of the fix to replace ratio being in the 60-80% depending on insurance company among all sorts of other factors. You didn't specify what outcome you are looking for so we could either sympathize with you or otherwise.

My $14,000 (new) 1999 4 banger Tacoma got rear-ended in 2001 by a Mustang which blew his airbags and shoved me into a third car. They repaired it for $8700. I feel you pain and hate tailgaters.
