I thought I would post this to possibly help others with AC problems they cannot solve. About 2 years ago I started having AC issues. The AC would not come on when the button was pushed, randomly. It seemed to be worse when it was hot! In cold weather it worked fine, of course. It also would not get very cold, but this too would vary. It would work fine for weeks, then not. All this crazy behavior made it frustrating to diagnose. I put would put it in the shop and it would run fine for them, then I would get it home and within a week it was f'd up again. Long story short, I finally traced it all back to a little black box behind the glove box called an "amplifier". It's a stupid name because in truth it is an ECU. Every single sensor and control goes through this box. My cost for the part was around $90, and it is just one bolt and a plug to replace it. Anyone can do it. If you have any random issues with your AC that no one can pin down, I'd bet it is this box. I made this repair last spring, and since then the AC has been ice cold and worked perfectly.
