Whiplash777 can you tell me how you used those four clips to allow access to the core?

@kidsmoke @Puppypunter here's the thread I mentioned which shows how the big 7-pin connector comes apart. I was going to try and take mine apart but the tabs wouldn't budge and I didn't want to risk breaking mine.

Ideally, what we want is a connector that can tap into not this big 7-pin connector but the square connector on the other end which attached up inside the bumper.

I’ll take a look at this tonight. Caribe hit me back with the info to make one go from the 8 pin (the not-trailer side of this one):

So going from that (it would be a male on the truck) to the 3 Gen would be easy enough. The only issue is getting the male (and female if someone wanted to tee off it), as it looks like they’d have to be ordered from Toyota. Not an issue, just an i$$ue….

The pins are difficult & I bought the Honda replacement & so I didn’t have to stress that. I did chew them the fuck up to get access to the unit. The Honda replacement is the same as your factory & pretty cheap. I’d recommend just get it if you fuck up the clips

I'd found the trailer harness side connector but it was nice that he provided the pin info because that's what I didn't have. I think the truck side connector p/n he posted is incorrect though.

The Honda part isn't a fix for what we're trying to do. We don't want to run the stock (or Honda version) 7 pin connector. I'm trying to delete the stock 7pin and replace it with a 4/7 combo and I want to do it plug and play without cutting/splicing any of the stock wiring. Some others are looking to tap into these wires so they can run a light in the hitch receiver.

There may be a vendor in the for sale area that can help. Was thinking someone was selling adapters for a no splice add to the connector at the 7 pin connection. Not sure if they are still available.

Here is my solution to add a 5 way plug to the current 7 pin. I spliced the harness wires to the 5 way. Covered with heat shrink and got it back in the loom. The covered it all in electrical tape. The only thing i should have done was stagger the splices more to make it fit in the wire loom better.

Here is my story (haha). I was plugging in my 7 pin from my trailer into my truck receptacle and the bracket was so rusted it fell right off the truck. I considered a relocation bracket, but I really needed a 4 pin connector to connect my boat trailer to as well as the factory 7 pin. I had been connecting my trailer wiring to a 7 pin adapter and it would make my life easier to have both. Another reason was that both of the bolt "ears" on my factory 7 pin were broken off. I glued them back on but I really don't trust them. The factory Toyota part IMO is too expensive and the Honda Ridgeline part that is mentioned earlier seems to be suffering from supply chain issues as I didn't seem to find it readily available. I decided to go with https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B092VHB66X This has the USCAR connector on it, so I disconnected it by unscrewing it at the 7 pin connector and put lug connectors on my harness. I mounted the 7 pin connector on the lower part of my bumper with the supplied bracket and hardware. Only a Taco owner would recognize it as an after-market connector. Looks great and it adds the 4 pin trailer connection for my boat, so I don't need my 4-7 pin adapter anymore.

Did you find a solution you liked? The part I bought above does what you are looking to do. The 7 pin has screw terminals so no need to splice.

No, I did not. I was going to just cut/splice but then found a couple other components of my install plan were also not what I thought so I just abandoned the project. I had bigger fish to fry. So for the Uhaul trailer rental I just used I ended up just using a cheap 7pin to 4pin adapter. I'd still like to simplify and relocate the stock connector but it's pretty low on the priority list seeing as I don't plan to be towing again anytime soon.

Do you have the part number for the OEM plug/harness assembly for a 2007?

So, I had a heck of a time getting the "white plastic cap" out of the plug. Solution: Cut off the plug housing up to about the cap, then was able to use a short hook to pop it out (with a bit of prying). (Then proceeded to unclip the wires from inside the housing; noting their placement around the plug connections.)
Next step, rewiring the Honda Ridgeline component into my Tacoma connecting wires (cable).

    BTW. This Honda part
    Genuine Honda 32113-SJC-A00 Trailer Sub-Wire
    is now $82.
