I had similar damage and cost 6K except no frame damage, just hitch. I assume yours will cost way more, cant really see how bad the frame is thought

    Yeah.
Honestly, it looks mostly cosmetic. I had even worse damage on my 2004, but no frame damage. They repaired it for $13.5k in 2005 dollars and it was fine.

I did a deep dive into this a while back.

This is actually untrue on a nationwide scale, but can be true for your state. Every state has a different law for the percent it takes to total a vehicle. Some are as low as 20% the vehicles current value, others are as high as 95% the current value.

Many are 70-75% though, so it's a good rough baseline.

Also important to factor in is the liability in the repair. A front impact significant enough for airbag deployment generally always gets totalled due to the forces required to deploy the air bags, as well as the replacement of the airbag system. But also there's a massive amount of liability with replacing the airbags that most insurers simply don't want to deal with.

The most common amount is 70% to 75%.

    “Total loss formula” (TLF):
The TLF is a comparison of the vehicle’s actual cash value to the sum of its repair costs and salvage value (how much it would sell for in its current condition).

Frame damage, if any, looks minor. The shop can replace the shackle hanger (just riveted in) and take some measurements against the collision repair manual.

In more severe rear-end crashes, the hitch would be pointing toward the ground. Yours isn't.

Looks like you have a base model? What year? What mileage?

So it seems the other guy’s insurance is paying since their insured is at fault. However, they pay based on a contract between them and their insured driver. Does this force the OP to accept aftermarket parts (like Capa or whatever cheap shit their adjuster spec’s)? I would want my truck repaired with OEM parts if that’s what was there before the crash? Or what if he had an expensive aftermarket bumper etc?

If they think it’s going to be 25k in repairs when it actually gets fixed it will be well north of 30k. I would keep pushing on this since I had a tree fall and damage my tailgate with paint and a total replacement quote was $2800 turned out to be more like $4200 when it was completed. Just had this finished 2 weeks ago.

this is where it's advantageous to pay your deductible, and file through your own full coverage insurance. let the insurance companies fight it out after that to recover their costs and your deductible.

Good point, except that I am also too cheap and have crap liberty mutual insurance, which only pays for Capa crap and the like. At least on my own vehicles. I don’t know how they would treat somebody else’s vehicles if I caused damage… and that’s kinda what my question was…
